Week 1

[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

[Varric doesn't even look up from his work, still trying to get every scarf placed just so. He shifts so that his back is fully turned to the younger man, all while looping a longer scarf around a post.

It's enough to hide his smirk.]

You're looking at a warding rune. This one is for keeping nosy roommates from asking questions without saying please.

Then it seems it was a spectacular failure.

[Not amused, Varric]

[Togami might not be amused, but it's pretty clear when Varric turns around that the dwarf absolutely is.]

Maybe it only works on the inside?

[Togami stares at Varric for a second, eyes narrowed, and simply steps inside the kiosk, idly -- and pettily -- giving Varric's bed a light kick before facing him again]

Who'd have thought? The word 'please' doesn't seem to be any more likely to happen from the inside of the kiosk.

I see I'm dealing with an adult here. [He nods to his bed, then looks back up at the man. He's still sporting that damn grin.]

I guess it would help if I was actually a mage. Or knew a damn thing about runes to begin with.

[Togami seems to be on the verge of sputtering indignantly, gesturing at the banners]

You're more than double my age yet have the gall of nagging at me for what I do?

[Togami's not the one who started being snarky at others, Varric!

Clearly these are two adults who solve things in an adult and mature way, how swell]

How's a rune supposed to ward anything, anyway? It's not like someone will see a rune and decide to just walk away.

I'm not the one kicking beds like someone still in their smalls. [The biggest of shrugs.]

Anyway, I'm not going to try and explain how magic works to you. Not because I don't want to, but because I have no damn idea.

[After stepping back and studying his handiwork, he opts to follow Togami into the room. He absolutely brushes against the man as he sits upon his own bed]

It's a sigil, anyway. From my friend's family.

It seems to be some sort of abstract crest of arms...what kind of family is it?

[A family of mages? Not that magic is real, that's for sure]

Just another silver-a-dozen noble line. To be honest, I don't give much of a shit for the political or historical aspects. My friend wasn't interested in any of that, and so I wasn't either.

I just wanted the reminder of home.

[Even if his heart ached when he looked at it.]

And for the reminder of home...you chose something that's related not to you, but to someone else. [Not what Togami would have done, but hey, you do you, Varric] Why not something you can associate to yourself?

[Hm. Maybe this will give Togami an idea...]

What can I say? I'm a social creature.

[That, and he didn't want to even begin to broach the topic of Hawke. Not that he didn't like talking about her. It was the opposite that was the problem -- once he started, he was liable to not shut up.]

At least I'm making myself at home. Can't say the same for you?

I don't expect to spend so much time in here I need to do something like "make myself at home".

[But...Varric being here with all these banners while he has nothing is unacceptable. Togami crosses his arms]

I'll have to do the same.

[A big banner with the Togami family crest, shown right on top of the kiosk and pretty much marking the kiosk as the place where Togami resides...

None of us do. But there's no point in sitting around moping in the meantime. Helps to do something with your hands from time to time.

[Varric shook his head, noting Togami's display with a grin.]

You remind me of someone I used to know.

[Oh boy, he reminds Varric of someone. That's not bound to be something he'll be pleased about, that much he's sure of]

Really? Who is this person I remind you of, exactly?

A prince, actually. Sebastian, was his name. Can't quite place what the similarity is though.

[Except he absolutely can. And the glint in his eyes and smirk on his lips says it all.]

[Togami passes a hand over his face, a sudden feeling of dred filling him]

I have the most uncanny feeling I won't like whatever similarity you say we have.

[Why did he have to be saddled with a roommate who keeps smirking and needling him, he wonders]

I think it has something to do with arrogance, so... [Another laugh rumbles up from his belly.] You probably wouldn't like it, no.

[Togami might not like who he's stuck with, but Varric is enjoying it immensely. Oops.]

Then don't say anything about it. There's nothing wrong with my so-called 'arrogance'

[It's simply the natural behavior of someone who is above the commoners]
