[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

That seems the most obvious possibility as it stands right now. I fail to see him as the sort of person with the stomach for sadism on the level proposed to us, so we can count out his involvement just for the sake of it. He mentioned a kingdom; if he's royal as he seems to act, then money and power alike shouldn't be an issue.

Unless something's been overlooked, one or several hostages seems likely.

Maybe it's... family? When I was, um. Asking him about Ruu-chan...

[ You know, when she came within .2 seconds of throwing down and Church had to pick her up like a sack of potatoes. ]

He said he wouldn't hold it against me if I tried something, because she was my family... but he had his own reasons for what he was doing. And I can't think of a better motivator than that.

[ Then again, Yuuri is a codependent mess so maybe she's not the best example. ]

It's possible, if that's the case.

... I guess there's not really much point in speculating at this point. I don't know how much the truth would help and it's not like he'd out and tell us even if we did guess right. Maybe if we asked politely enough?

I couldn't possibly care less why he's doing it. Xander's problems aren't my concern; what I care about is returning to what I was doing before this. And if I have to kill Xander and everyone he answers to in order to get there, I'm entirely fine with that.

You're just a little bit terrifying sometimes. Has anyone ever told you that?

[ those are probably words of praise, coming from Yuuri "Gentle, Terrifying" Wakasa ]

No wonder you spooked him so badly.

I'm getting the feeling that I don't particularly want to know. Is that right?

Precisely correct, yes.

Then let's both agree to just leave it at that. We've probably got enough to be worrying about, don't you think?

I'm just glad you're on our side and not his.

I can at least assure you I've no reason to kill any of you. Whether you and the others believe that or not is none of my concern.
