[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

It's "unusual"? [It takes her a moment to remember. Oh, yes, he did that presentation thing during that meeting a day ago.]

I understand putting all of us in an empty mall would raise questions and also concerns from whoever owns these stores, but if someone has enough power to bring all of us here, then maybe they just took it for themselves.

If there are enough people out there for there to be a mall, I don't see why nobody would alert the authorities if they realized what's going on.

[What kind of space civilization would do the mall first before the police station or something like that? Not one destined to live for long, that's for sure!]

They'd have to be rather apathetic about us, if they know and are letting this happen.

We can't possibly know right now what's going on outside of this place.

[...She lets out a sigh, reaching to brush some strands of loose hair behind her ear.]

But it's probably for the best if we don't immediately jump to the worst conclusion. I would rather think the best of people... even if they're not people.

[So idealistic, but at the same time that reminds him of people he knows. He's not sure if that's reassuring or not]

It'd be great if the only concern we'll have anytime soon is about the color of those strange eggs from the food court. Must be nice to have that...weird optimism.

Being optimistic isn't weird, it's simply hoping for the best while still thinking about the worst.

[And she's dealt with the worst for so long. Thinking that maybe things will get better is a reasonable response... right?]

...I'm not foolish, Byakuya. I know how tense the situation is, and just how easy it might be for someone to slip up and then... something happens that everyone will regret. I just want to believe that it wont.

I don't understand how you can keep believing in people after everything you said you have seen.

I'm not going to stop believing in the people I love just because one person I don't know did something truly despicable.
