Week 6

[Six weeks. Twenty-three Champions whittled down to just seven. Where the halls of the station once felt crowded and loud now they're empty and echo when someone speaks too loudly. Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night but outside of the usual wake-up call there is no new floor announcement from CECE.

Like the trash compactor last week, the infirmary is pristine and sterile once again. As if nothing had ever happened.]

Do your arms still ache now and then? [He mounts one of the motorcycles but doesn't actually start up the game yet.] We're still a mess, you and I.

Yeah. My PIP arm mostly. I still... can't feel the tips of my fingers.

I'll take being struck by lightning over that any day, if I'm ever given the choice. Hopefully it's not permanent nerve damage. [He tries to say it casually, because putting the full weight on the words might then weigh him down too much.]

I can still shoot at least a little. Can write. And use a knife well enough to cook. You can still draw your cards, yeah? We'll manage.

All the important skills accounted for, clearly. [He kicks the game on, letting the machine let out a tinny rev of an engine.] I can still be a genius hacker duelist inventor, and you can still be a magical domestic terrorist.

Yep, all the important skills in life.

[He snickers, lowering the gun as the level completes, turning at the sound of the toy engine]

Anything like a real motorcycle?

No, but to be fair, that one was also simulated in a virtual world, even if it wasn't plastic. I'm sure I looked amazing doing it, though.

I did steal a sports car off a lot once, but is it stealing if I drop a half million on the owner before driving away?

I mean, technically yes. And I'm supposed to be the criminal.

I let Mokuba pick it out. Shame that got wrecked, too, but not through any fault of mine.

I may have done a few illegal things in my life. Here and there. Now and again.

...was it a nice car? Pretty hot? I've always wanted a legit car.

[He revs the fake engine again and throws Akira a smirk as the race starts.] Well, it wasn't worth half a million, but it was certainly nice.

Nicer to get driven around or to otherwise use your personal dragon-shaped jet, if you ask me.

[Akira snorts, causing him to get chomped by a zombie and die in the game. Unlike with Ricky this probably isn't forshadowing]

Shut up, of course you have a dragon jet.

Zombina was convinced she'd get to come to my world and see it. Blue-Eyes, naturally. I live for my theme.

That is the most extra thing I've ever heard. How many millions of yen did you dump on that?

A gentleman doesn't build a personal jet and tell. [He can hold a conversation and lean into corners at the same time. (Sure is a shame he's got that coat on covering the good stuff, huh?)] You should've seen the time I jumped out of it and used a jetpack to go the rest of the way down as an introduction to one of my tournaments. It also remote parks.

You have to be showy if you're going to run a tournament or three. If you're going to command the attention of the world with your life-changing technologies.

I believe that you're right. That all the flash was probably researched and playtested and very effective.

I also 100% believe you like the attention.

[He leans deep into a corner, knee nearly touching the floor.] Me? Attention? Whatever gave you that idea? It certainly couldn't have been the time I introduced a small tournament by showing off how realistic my new graphics were, causing the audience to think an out of control jet had been destroyed by a dragon while I emerged from the flaming wreckage unscathed.

A little excitement keeps people on their toes.

And so humble too.

When you become a multibillionaire by being smarter and better than everyone else around you, you don't have the luxury of humility. Sharks in the water, after all.

I guess that makes sense. Just gotta be the most over the top to be on top.

I could have been a normal stuffy suit. And just because I have day to day business suits doesn't mean I'm stuffy in the slightest. Just another worker, just another business owner, concerned with making the most money the easiest way possible. But I wouldn't have liked where I would have ended up, who I would have had to become to do so.

Some suggest it's just overcompensation. I think we both know that's not true.
