[In a tragic yet seemingly inevitable turn of fate, the Champions have lost Zombina this week. OsoKaramatsu and Korra, too, are gone, both having fallen in their attempts to help their fellow Champions out of terrible circumstances.

Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night, until they're awakened by C.E.C.E.'s announcement. This is all starting to become routine.]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.!

[The trash compactor is completely shiny and new again. In addition, the profiles on the P.I.P.s still inticate that Karamatsu is dead. Because of course he is, right?

They've- all been wonderful, really. Ruby told me she was sure I was real, that I had a soul- just like that.

...What's a homunculus.

It's something like an artificial human, though of course they're not exactly the same. They're "grown" with magic, and die the same age they were when they were created.

["Age: Yes" brings it to mind, honestly. And the question of souls...]

Then no, I don't think so. I- wasn't grown, I was built.

[She hugs her knees tighter to her chest.]

The first robotic individual capable of generating and manipulating an Aura.

The way you're thinking of it is too superficial, Penny-chan. Like a homunculus, you were made to appear human even though you aren't. Like a homunculus, you were created for some purpose. And, like a homunculus, you've been carefully designed to fulfill that purpose.

[Manaka pads from her place at the doorway, crouching down in front of Penny and offering her a smile.]

I'm right, aren't I? Whether you're made from metal or pseudo-biological material doesn't make much difference. I think it's fine, to be something like that.

She hops back up to her feet a moment later, and turns like she's going to go back the doorway. She stops, though, to answer that question.]

Mm, not if you compare their numbers to the global human population. They aren't uncommon among magi, though. Why?

[Like even Ruby acknowledged that it was an unusual situation, Manaka.]

Sorry, should I have acted more surprised? I don't see the point in being caught up on minor details.

[Saying that she's the only one, though... Manaka pauses, tilting her head.]

You said you are the "first robotic individual capable of generating an Aura." Are there plans to create more like you?

Oh. I didn't think it was that minor.

[She can at least say that this specific reaction isn't one she would've expected.]

...I'm not actually sure. Maybe? It might depend on my performance in the Vytal Festival Tournament. But I know Mister Ironwood is very interested in any technology to help keep real- um, normal soldiers safe on the battlefield.

[To be fair, Manaka's idea of what counts as minor doesn't usually fall in line with a normal person's.]

Mm! I just thought, there had to be an original homunculus. So, maybe people like you won't be so rare one day!

Maybe.

[More brothers and sisters. It was a nice thought.]

You know these homunculus, right? I mean personally.

[She shakes her head.]

No, I've never met one myself. It isn't within my family's power to create them.
