Week 5

[In a tragic yet seemingly inevitable turn of fate, the Champions have lost Zombina this week. OsoKaramatsu and Korra, too, are gone, both having fallen in their attempts to help their fellow Champions out of terrible circumstances.

Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night, until they're awakened by C.E.C.E.'s announcement. This is all starting to become routine.]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.!

[The trash compactor is completely shiny and new again. In addition, the profiles on the P.I.P.s still inticate that Karamatsu is dead. Because of course he is, right?

Hmmm... got anything fruity? A little booze is okay but I'm trying to not get in the habit.

I can do that. It's... this is a lot like home. [yeah uh just let him get down into the fridge to see what he can do for mixers for a skinny teenager in the am. he hasn't even gotten that far before; it feels good planning and pouring now that there's a real person here]

You mix drinks back home?

[andjerry]

[it's the other half of the occupation section, the one he doesn't talk about because it's the one that's closer to who he really is, so he shrugs a little, trying not to look pleased.]

I cook, I mix. It's- it's important in my family, my sister owns a bar, it's a way to really get to know others... but you don't really know about that, right?

[...so he doesn't know Akira is a barback in a drag bar.]

I actually work part-time in a bar back home. Bussing, dishes, that kinda thing. I can't serve drinks or dress up 'cuz I'm underage, but it's good work.

[Dress up?]

You really- you learn a lot about others, if they've let their guard down. I can see you liking it. [kid it is not even noon, he is getting creative enough with the juice that not even a sorority girl would complain about getting wasted]

...being underage, that's a problem, but what kind of "dress up"- [he already knows, maybe. maybe. it's a dumb question.]

[akira tilts his head back, pondering his answer]

Crossroads isn't a drag bar exactly. Or a gay bar. But the owner, Lala, is a crossdresser, and she's the main draw of the place. Everyone comes to see her. So it's part of the aesthetic.

[andjerry]

It doesn't bother you? That kind of place?

[his hands are a smidge less steady, even if his face doesn't really change. his guess was wrong and it's a relief- it's about someone feeling safe enough as who they are that they call attention to themselves, not about eying a pretty young kid and fantasizing about the night being over.]

Not really. I mean, I never really saw a place like that before moving to the city. But... Lala-chan always looks out for me, so I trust her.

[andjerry]

[Akira seems confident enough in his safety that he won't keep asking, not yet. The kind of questions he'd ask Penny or Manaka are so different than for a boy who seems like he's got a better grip on human nature. Last touches on something he's improvised, and he pushes it over to Akira with an almost shy look.]

Tokyo, right? A place like that- it's going to open up someone's eyes wide.

[le_mat]

Yeah... I mean, Tokyo is more like it's own world then a city. I'd never even been on a subway before coming there.

[He takes the drink and sips it with no hesitation]

Do you think you'd stay? [this guy wonders. he really does.]

[le_mat]

...

I can't. Not really. Once my probation is over I go home... I could run away but I couldn't do that to my mom.

But you know, small towns. They don't forget.

[andjerry]

[yeah no they don't, whether you accosted japanese donald trump or are the guy who has to stay back at the station because you aren't enough of a real man for police work]

...What do they have to forget about?

My probation, mostly. I 'attacked' a man and got hauled out to Tokyo after my school kicked me out. Before I left rumors were already spreading that I was dangerous.

[He takes a deeper drink]

Maybe they were right.

[Even before his heart was freed by Joker, he knew that town was never going to be big enough for him]
