Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

[She's quiet for a moment, considering that. It...doesn't make a whole lot of sense to make a game based on things that honestly sound like they'd fit in right at home in Ylisse, but...]

Would you...would you mind teaching me how it works?

[He watches her while she's quiet, but gives her a reassuring smile and scoots to make room for her, gentling his own voice to match.]

[There's a soft breath of relief, and Lucina sits beside him, letting the book rest between them.]

Thank you. The book's contents are very interesting on their own, but if they are meant to be used with others as part of a game, then they must be even more interesting when one does so.

[He flips to the races to start with.]

There's a few different races, here. Humans can do pretty much anything, but the other races are usually balanced toward a certain group of classes, like muscles or magic or sneaking around. Let's start with picking one of these.

...Can I stay a human?

[Lucina you don't. Transform into the races...]

[He's a little taken aback by the question, but then he chuckles.]

Of course you stay a human. You're just picking what you want your character to look like.

...Oh.

[Maybe she's not really cut out to play this sort of game. Still...she'd like to play.]

Alright. Then, um. Even so, I would like to be a human in the game. [Pause.] A young man with a sword, perhaps. That's okay to do, right? If it's just in the game, something like that doesn't matter.

How would you like to play a paladin?

A paladin...okay, sure. That sounds perfect! And...as a paladin, I would be a good person, right? Who helps those in need.

There's different kinds of paladins, but if you want to fight for Truth and help those in need then you'd definitely have the Oath of Devotion.

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Devotion vary, paladins of this oath share these tenets: Honesty, Courage, Compassion, and Honor.

I like how that sounds. Yes - I'll do that.

Now, what do you think you want to name your character?

[The answer came so instantly that when Lucina cuts herself off, her cheeks have already turned pink. No no no no, it's okay to borrow the name of the Hero King when you want to inspire hope in others, not...not for a game! You can't use his name for a game!]

...M...Mars. I-I would like to name him Mars.

Mars. The Roman god of war and their response to the Greek Ares.

[He writes the name down on top of the character sheet, then smiles at her.]

So your alignment is going to be Lawful Good. This means that your goal is to uphold justice in the world, and to always act on behalf of the greater good.

[Oh it's...it's a thing? In other worlds? She hadn't...

...Well, she's going to roll with it.]

That's perfect!

Great! Now let's see, we're almost done, I promise.

[He flips to the next step and explains it to her slowly.]

There's no need to apologize. I'm quite enjoying the process, it's...it reminds me of things my mother might talk about.

[You know, tactical plotting vs DMing, there's a similar air to it. She appreciates Bolton taking his time, though, and does her best to answer any questions that need answering and doing her rolls like a grown adult.]

[He smiles softly, surprised at that.]

Well, hopefully it won't be too long 'til you get back to her.
