Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

I was thinking about it. You interested?
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina even cockier (Even cockier zombie)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-20 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hell yeah! Never been an paper and pen kinda gal, mostly due ta the having ta sit down for long periods of time, but I'm bored as shit so I'll take a bit of rigor mortis and D&D over pacing the hallways back and forth when I'm not watching movies.

[+1 literal zombie to your campaign.]

[He gestures at the seat across from him.]

What kind of character do you wanna roll?
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina sweating. (Zombina totally has this.)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
What kinda characters CAN I roll? 'Cause I'm totally an noob at this to be honest.

[Let her just plop herself down into that seat then!]

But if there's anything ta do with the undead or zombies, I'm interested.
dejabrew: (Time for some guilt-free arson)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-20 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm... Let's see.

[He flips through the PHB, and turns around the page on Half-Orcs.]

It's not a zombie, but it's pretty gnarly.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina has two guns (ZOMBINA'S GOTTA GUN! TWO OF THEM!)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-20 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Lemme seeeee.....

[Oooooh Orcs!]

Huh, kinda expected them ta be more pig like if they're half-orc. Sounds cool though, I'll take it!
dejabrew: (and later I feel bad about it)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-22 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Alright! So half-Orcs get a race bonus to their Strength and Constitution, so when you're picking a class you want to go for one that'll benefit from that boost. Probably some kind of melee fighter, like a Barbarian or a Fighter or a Monk. You could even do some kind of Paladin if you were interested in going that way.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: She's so smug (Smug Zombie)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-22 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I think I'll go Barbarian. Brute strength is simple and effective!
dejabrew: (I cast "frustrate GM")

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-25 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Half-orc Barbarian, can't beat a classic. Let's see here...

[He flips to the page and then gets out a notebook and a few of the dice, and clicks the pencil a few times before he starts to explain how to roll up a character but that's probably about as boring to actually write out as watching someone parallel park so I'm down for rolling over it.]
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina sweating. (Zombina totally has this.)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Zombina's a pretty decent listener when she wants to be, so it goes by pretty fast. She does pretty decent on the roles and winds up with an tanky build, but one that's dumb as rocks.]

Woah, Half Orc-chan is lookin' pretty tough so far! What next?
dejabrew: (and later I feel bad about it)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-25 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Now the fun part; what do you wanna call this beautiful girl?

[Beautiful is subjective because charisma is a dump stat.]
theworldsliveliestcorpse: She's so smug (Smug Zombie)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-25 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmm! Let's see, let's see....

[ Zombina hmms and takes an contemplative pose.]

How abouuuuut.... Helga! She sounds like an Helga! Helga Romero.
dejabrew: (Time for some guilt-free arson)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Helga Romero.

[...Fuckin a]

Haaaah, I get it, Romero like the Dawn of the Dead guy.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina in her casual outfit (Colored Casual Outfit)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-25 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Bingo! Though the Dawn of the Dead is an worthy remake, I personally prefer the original made by the genius himself. Night of the Living Dead is an total classic! Zombies in movies these days are just too lively sometimes, I'm more a fan of the slow shambling Romero type!
dejabrew: (The amount of manipulation I have to do)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-25 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He laughs.]

The original Dawn is my personal favorite, but it came out when I was a teenager full of piss and vinegar. Night came out when I was 5, so it wasn't exactly my first.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina waving her hand dismissisvly (Whatever)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-25 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ta each their own! Like I said, Dawn is an worthy remake! It really brought the fear home, but in the end I'm just not too big a fan of how lively Snyder's zombies were in comparison ta Romero's slow and shambling ones. But each one caters a whole different type of fear, so I feel that they can each stand on their own as separate things.
dejabrew: (Time for some guilt-free arson)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
...Wait, they remade Dawn? The 1979 Romero classic and sequel to Night of the Living Dead?

[He props his elbow on the table.]

I remember they wouldn't let anyone under 17 in to see it, but I had just turned 17 and there wasn't god nor man who could stop me from going.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina in her casual outfit (Colored Casual Outfit)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-26 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Good choice, Ya can't beat an Romero zombie movie!

[Zombina laughs.]

Yeah, and while it's good and stuff, I still prefer the Romero original squeal. Zack Synder's 2004 version is different enough ta be considered a reimagining, but it uses the same base of characters hiding in the mall during a zombie apocalypse and shares the same title, so it's pretty easy ta argue either way.

[Zombina ticks off a few fingers as she lists out the differences.]

Aaaanyway, the thing is, 2004 is more dark and all about the jumpscares, fear, and fast paced tension. It's a totally different style than how Romero went for being eerie, slow paced, and a lighter atmosphere. Romero let ya scare yourself and keep on the edge of your seat, while Synder is tryin' ta knock ya outta it. Romero also didn't take himself too seriously and considered it ta be an comedy at some points.

[Zombina is pretty much pouting at the next part.]

Snyder made his zombies able ta run, jump, and scream. Like I said, they're way too lively in my opinion! I can still appreciate the new spin on everything though. It gives it's own experience while still bringing in a lot of what made the original great.

[She grins.]

I managed ta find Night of the Living Dead in the media room earlier. I bet if we go digging around, we'll be able ta find 2004 to if ya wanna watch it.
dejabrew: (surrounded by water)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Bolton pulls a little bit of a face.]

You didn't make it sound too tempting just then. I like the horror-comedy aspects of the original Romeros, what's the point of a zombie flick if you're not laughing at it?

2004, though. Bet the special effects aren't anything to scoff at.
theworldsliveliestcorpse: She's so smug (Smug Zombie)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-30 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Totally! Ya can't have an movie be entirely doom and gloom! That's just plain depressin'! I'm not really a big fan of downer endings!

[Haha...ha...]

Still, people seem ta be going ga ga over speedy zombies these days. It's a real shame that it's gettin' harder ta find a well produced movie with the shambling ones. Still, the special effects are usually real impressive! So that's another point for Snyder and the modern zombie movies favor. They really got some accurate gore in there!

[Trust the resident Zombie. She would know.]
dejabrew: (and later I feel bad about it)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-10-30 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Shaun of the Dead is a better Dawn of the Dead adaptation than the 2004 remake.]

What, you mean you can't just fake it with cornflakes and liquid latex anymore?
theworldsliveliestcorpse: Zombina waving her hand dismissisvly (Whatever)

[personal profile] theworldsliveliestcorpse 2017-10-30 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[You are an man after her own heart Bolton. You get Zombie movies.]

Well ya could! But we've got fancy computer graphics now! Digital effects have become a huge parta zombie movies these days. Still, cornflakes and liquid latex are totally invaluable resources in my opinion. Things can look kinda silly with some digital effects. Like, it'll totally snap ya outta the film if ya see an real bad effect that looks totally fake!
dejabrew: (to keep this party together)

[personal profile] dejabrew 2017-11-25 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have never seen a computer generated effect that looks good. Well, outside of, you know, Star Wars.

[He thinks he's from 1990 - computer generated effects were in their infancy.]

Of course, sometimes the practical effects don't look great either. You ever notice how fake the shark in Jaws looks?
