Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

[DID SOMEONE SAY MOVIE NIGHT??

You know those animes where the characters genuinely sparkle in delight at something? Yeah. Look hard enough and she'd actually be sparkling. Hardcore.]

I hadn't even had a chance to look at the movie collection yet. Is it in the movie room somewhere?

[She's already looking for the movie room. Was that a rhetorical question? ...Probably not. ]

Yeah! It's on those shelves - mostly stuff about space? Or with aliens in it?

[He follows her along to the movie room as he responds.]

I mean, they know their theme, I guess.

[stillstands]

[Ah, the space station specialises in sci-fi. Whodathunk it.

But hey, movies. Miki is all about those things. She seems pretty into checking out the bottom shelf of them.]

You can't give them any points for originality. But there's so many of them, they can probably be forgiven.

[She's already pulling out a bunch of titles - that sure is Pacific Rim she's dragged up there, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Classics.]

It’s weird that some of them are familiar. Not that one... [Gesturing to Pacific Rim] ...but I’ve seen a lot of these.

There's a number I haven't seen, but--[Star Trek, Star Wars...]-- there are classics too.

[She looks up. Look at that glint in her eyes, yo.]

Is this your preferred genre then?

[theundertaken]

Yeah. Sci-fi, fantasy, that sort of stuff. [he's a nerd] How about you?

[stillstands]

I'll watch most movies, really. I genre hop.

[But she pauses. She's been deliberately setting aside any horror movies, shoving them aside in favour of looking at other films.]

I'm not really a horror fan though.

You like Stephen King, though? Or is it just different with movies?

[stillstands]

Horror movies are a bit... [She wrinkles her nose.] You can control the pace of things when you're reading, but not so much with a movie. And you're shown everything, rather than being able to imagine or not imagine as much as you want.

Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, I wasn't really wanting to do a horror movie anyway, seems like it'd be in shitty taste. I want people to be a little happier, maybe, not jumping at shadows.

[stillstands]

Something uplifting, or absorbing would definitely work well here. Any suggestions?

[Pacific Rim looks interesting but also kind of end of the world doomish... maybe something else.]

Not sure. I was thinking maybe something classic, since a lot of people here wouldn'tve seen that stuff.

[stillstands]

Right. Something familiar, or at least well known by name. Like Star Wars?

[theundertaken]

That'd be cool. And it's a pretty easy storyline to follow, too, no time travel or any of that shit.

[stillstands]

Sci-fi is fine, but time travel is a no?

[theundertaken]

It'd probably be fine if it was something that didn't focus too much on the mechanics? Like, how timelines work and all. But I mean, people like Lucina are still working on the spaceship concept.

[stillstands]

R-right... start simple so she can still enjoy it without being too confused, and go from there.

[Maybe even Star Wars would be a lot for her to take in...?]

Yeah. Star Trek'd be fun too, but I don't think we have the TV show and I dunno what it's like to see the movies without that context. Also the first one's not that great.

[stillstands]

... I don't think I've ever seen Star Trek. It was a TV show?

[theundertaken]

Oh, yeah, there's been a few different runs now. The original series aired in the sixties.

[stillstands]

[That's...]

That's about half a century ago...! It's that popular?

[theundertaken]

Oh, totally! There's a bunch of stuff - later series, movies, fan conventions. One of the actors on the original series died like a year ago, and NASA shot his ashes into space.

[stillstands]

[Wow.]

That's pretty intense. Unless of course he didn't want his ashes to go to space... that seems like a very specific thing to ask for in your will, though. If he did.

[pours one out for Nimoy]

Oh, god, it'd be hysterical if he didn't! Just like, "we are literally banishing your human remains from this earth, fuck you". Nah, nah, I'm sure he asked. Or probably somebody told him or his estate or something. It's supposed to be an honor - he gets to go be in the stars for real.

[stillstands]

Good. I wouldn't have thought they'd do something so big without permission in his will or maybe from his family.

... Yeah, especially if he played a part in such an iconic series about space.
