Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

[A little after Miki enters, Slaine makes his way down into the kitchen as well. At first, it looks like he's simply taking stock of what's around, but after a bit, it probably gets obvious that he has no idea what the hell he's doing here when he just kind of... stands around and watches her cook while holding one of those freeze-dried packets.

Hi Miki??]

[stillstands]

[... Hello Slaine.

After a moment, it becomes apparent her new kitchen-companion isn't going anywhere. So, Miki sets her spoon down and turns to give him a look that's part searching, part maybe a little exasperated.]

Is everything okay?

[Because, uh. You sure are just standing there clutching a packet like it's a comfort blanket, dude.]

[Look we all need something to feel safe!! Even if he could probably choose something better than a food packet smh. Anyways, it really was a matter of time before she noticed and... yeah okay, this is awkward.]

...I was just observing.

[Not creepy at all right]

[stillstands]

[The food packet is easily replaced, but do the emotions remain, Slaine? Do they!?

... She just kinda stares at him, a little warily.]

I'm not doing anything special.

[Well, he does like chicken?! no not particularly tbh But hugging a food packet as you sleep is still a little weird.

Meanwhile, Slaine kind of just... avoids her direct gaze.]

T-that may be so, but I haven't had much of a chance to cook for myself.

[He was creeping for a good reason!! He swears!!]

[stillstands]

[It would be... don't cuddle a food packet in bed please, Slaine.]

[... when did she become the person to go to for this sort of thing.]

Its really not difficult? You're just heating it up in the packet for as long as it says on the booklet. [....

... he looks like a lost puppy.]

[It's alright, he has better taste than that!! (ha)

He looks faintly surprised when she offers. Considering the whole point of watching was so he didn't impose (which he clearly failed at doing!!), he's hesitant to accept but the faster he nails this down, the better, and so.]

I-I would appreciate it. [He looks down (wistfully? maybe a little wistfully) at his package of rice and chicken before he grabs a pot and utensils. He knows how to open the package!! That's the first step right.]

...It's been a long time since I have had anything like this.

Prepackaged things? It's been a while since I had them as well, or had to cook really...

[And even then, Yuuri seemed to have authority over most of the kitchen related stuff. But eating something other than hard tack and cereals had been wonderful.

Hang on, she's going to grab a pan and set it on the stove top. Probably good to have something to dump the open pack of food in.]

It shouldn't be difficult - it's just got to be heated up, so as long as it's hot it should be fine.

Well, yes... and no. Any food from Earth is considered a luxury, and as such... it wouldn't have been accessible to someone like me.

[Hurray, living off krill and chlorella?! But it's been long enough that he doesn't really mind it so. He will just... empty that stuff into the pan then!? Yay cooking!!]

And I should stir it to keep it from burning... right? [All the unsures...]

Yeah. It shouldn't take long - about ten, fifteen minutes according to the package instructions.

[Wait... what?]

You had no access to regular food at all...?

Conditions on Mars aren't well-suited for agriculture and trade from Earth has been halted for 15 years now, so we are limited in what can be produced. I've become accustomed to it, so it doesn't bother me, but...

[It's been a while.]

But okay nah, this isn't the first time he's gotten this reaction so.]

O-oh. Well, about 40 years ago during one of the moon landings, a hypergate to Mars was found and excavated out. Colonization began a couple of years after that, although they soon declared independence and established themselves as the Vers Empire.

... And what year are you from...? Out of curiosity. The moon landings happened a long time ago back home, but not one discovered a--uh--[how did he put it?] hypergate to anywhere?

I don't even know what a hypergate is. But I'm sure if it existed, we'd know about it.

[Kind of a weird question but at the same time, they have people from alternate worlds and stuff so he'll roll with it??]

It's the year 2014. It is fairly common knowledge for me back home, but you aren't the first person here who doesn't recognize it. But the hypergate allowed for near-instantaneous travel between the Moon and Mars, so... if it were not for that discovery, I doubt the Vers Empire would exist as it is today.

[stillstands]

[Welp.]

Well... yes, I'm from around that time and we're no where near landing people on Mars let alone founding an empire there? Travelling to the moon is limited to scientific probes and study.

[Oh... oh. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't the least bit curious about what the world would be like if Mars hadn't been colonized.]

I see... then what is your home like, Ms. Miki? ...Is Earth peaceful?

[stillstands]
