Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

[Penny's back here today, with another small stack of technical manuals to look over. And at least one trashy romance that somehow got into the pile on accident. Probably.]

Oh, hold on-- [She marks the place with her finger, and holds the book up so Penny can see the spine.] It's an author I know from back home. I've read one of his books before.

[Well where else is she going to get over-romanticized notions about romance between learning about space travel.]

Stephen King? I haven't heard of him. Though I guess I wouldn't have, since. Different worlds. He must be a good author, if you're reading more of his work. What's it about?

[As long as spTwilight isn't in there she can probably be forgiven.]

You would've if you were from my home. He's usually considered one of the stand-out novelists of the era.

[Ah. Hm. How to describe The Shining?]

It's a horror story. About a guy who becomes a caretaker at historical, haunted hotel. [The Cliffnotes edition.]

I see, so it's like a ghost story! When you're done with it, do you think I could see it?

... [Ah.] It's a little more psychological than just a ghost story, but if you're interested then sure.

...Are there a lot of people on your Earth? You said there's no Grimm there, so that means people should be able to spread out a lot more, right? Without needing to worry about barriers and defenses around populated areas.

[stillstands]

[Oh my god just go straight for the throat why don't you Penny.]

... I [If they'd had barriers, would it have changed anything? If there had been defences in place would it have isolated the infection, and saved more people? It's enough to make her pause for a moment.]

... Yes, there are a lot of people. We're all spread over - different continents, and cultures everywhere. I think there are around 7 billion of us all around the world.

Oh, wow, that many? Chloe said there were billions, I didn't think it was possible. Remnant has a population of a few hundred million, across all the kingdoms.

Yeah. Billions, at last count.

[There hasn't been one since the outbreak, after all.] I imagine maintaining a population, Grimm aside, is easier with hundreds of millions rather than billions. It's a bit of a strain on resources...

I imagine there would be, yes. I know there was recently something of a shortage of Dust supplies, but that was due to a MASSIVE string of robberies, not a lack of resources.

[stillstands]

Is... dust really worth stealing? It's everywhere, most people just sweep it up and throw it out.
