Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Blaze Dudely and Rox came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Wednesday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot.

[Karamatsu's done a bit of wandering since the motive happened, from checking out the other rooms to looking at the rooms they have to sleep in...mapping out exactly how long this damn hallway is if he's going to have to walk its entire length at least twice a day. But at some point during all of that, he feels someone breeze past him, and by the time he looks back he spots Yuri disappearing into his room.

Hm.

He waits, just for a bit, and then heads over to his door.]

Yuri-kun? Is everything alright?

[quadjumps]

[ if there's one thing that motive did, it's to not trust anyone. with the motive in place and all other things considered....

he's scared.

he thinks he's an easy target. he looks frail, he can't fight, he has no powers like some other people do (apparently). he debates on not answering, but....

the door opens. just slightly. ]

Depends on who's asking.

[karappo]

Ah...it is me, Karamatsu.

[He smiles faintly when he sees the door open, his hands loose and relaxed at his sides.]

I suppose you are thinking about that...incentive we were given.

[quadjumps]

[ well...the door's not closing? that's a good sign. ]

I'm not thinking about it.

[ he's worried about what other people are thinking. ]

[karappo]

[Karamatsu thinks he can assume as much. He might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he's a lot more attentive than most people would think.]

...if it helps at all, I feel that it is very unlikely for someone to take it seriously. Not seriously enough to actually hurt someone else over it. I just do not want to believe that.

[quadjumps]

So what? Are we just going to be stuck here forever, then?

[ he definitely sounds bitter, through what little karamatsu can hear through the door crack. yuri's sitting down now, back leaned against the door. ]

I don't understand any of this shit. Why I was picked for this, why we're being forced into a shitty situation.

[karappo]

[Karamatsu's expression softens. He could tell Yuri that this just happens sometimes...that they're part of an elaborate skit that has to end at some point, but somehow he doesn't think that would make him feel any better.

He walks closer to the door, not wanting to stand in the middle of the hallway for too long.]

Not forever. Contrary to what they would want us to believe...something will give eventually.

[Just...hopefully that something doesn't involve murder.]

We may have only just met, but you have a lot of conviction, Yuri-kun. You are too strong to let something like this get to you, non?

[quadjumps]

...Something that might kill us all.

[ everyone's trying to get him to be more hopeful, more optimistic, but yuri isn't having any of it. he doesn't trust anyone.

yet, should he really be shutting people out like this?

What are you talking about? I'm just being careful. If I go out there amongst potential murderers, they might paint me as an easy target.

[karappo]

[Ah...So that's what he's worried about.

Karamatsu decides to sit down on the floor, finally, letting his shoulder rest against the door a little.]

Non non...there is nothing wrong with being cautious. But...is there any particular reason you think someone would find you an easy target?

[He doesn't mention his age, mostly because the thought of someone targeting a child makes his stomach turn.]

[ he's debating on whether or not he should tell karamatsu. what if he's the type who'll turn on him and kill him? yet, karamatsu doesn't seem that way, but how...how would yuri know that?

he curls up a little. ]

I can't fight back.

[karappo]

[Karamatsu can feel his chest tighten when he hears that. He knows what it feels like...being the target of ridicule or even physical harm and being powerless to stop it. At least he could fight if he wanted to, he just...chooses not to.

He sinks down against the door a little, lifting a hand to drag his fingers through his hair.]

I would wager that you are not the only one of us in this position. And I think you have the right idea, being cautious and looking out for yourself.

It is not much, but...my room is not very far away. I will do what I can to keep an eye out for you. Okay, Yuri-kun?

KARAMATSU!!! SOBS...

[quadjumps]

...Hey, Karamatsu.

[ it's said softly, not in his usual accusatory tone. ]

Why do you care so much about someone you just met?

[karappo]

Why?

[He pauses to think about that, not expecting to be asked to begin with.]

...I suppose...if it were me feeling helpless, I would want someone to extend the same sentiment.

[quadjumps]

[ yuri falls silent. is this what he wants? someone to care? yes. but he's afraid. he's scared that if he lets someone in now, that they'll (quite literally) turn around and backstab him when they get the chance.

he doesn't say anything in response. ]

[karappo]

[Karamatsu isn't sure how to interpret the silence. Maybe he just isn't sure what to say, and that's fine. He isn't here to press him for answers or anything, just to check if he's okay.

So after some time, he speaks up again.]

Do you need anything before bed time, or are you okay?

[quadjumps]

Huh?

[ karamatsu's voice alerts yuri and frees him from his thoughts. ]

I'm fine. I grabbed a load of food and other things before I got here.

You should worry about yourself.

[karappo]

Heh. There is nothing about me to worry about. At any rate, Osomatsu and I have decided to stay in the same room from now on...so neither of us will be alone.

[Assuming they're not stopped, but it seems like a smart thing to do if murder is afoot.]

[quadjumps]

...Aren't you lucky, having someone you know from home to rely on.

Or maybe that's more unlucky.

[karappo]

Unlucky?

[Karamatsu shifts his weight a bit where he's sitting.]

How so?

[quadjumps]

Because given our situation, wouldn't that just be putting your brother at risk, too? Would you really want your loved ones to be stuck here with you?

[karappo]

[...that makes Karamatsu's heart skip a beat before his chest tightens in a way that...is Not Good.]

...I...no. It...it is not ideal.
