Week 5

[Five weeks in, and suddenly your numbers have been reduced by a lot. All evidence of Oda's methodical slaughter has been wiped away by the robots, but getting rid of the memories isn't going to be so easy. Not to mention the emotional scars.

Again on Sunday morning, you'll find yourselves with some new memories and some new items. Today, however, there are no new rooms.]

[Ah. So it was more than just the past day or two catching up with her. She honestly hoped that could be it if only so it didn't mean she wasn't suffering more, but-- guess not.]

Do you want to talk about it?

[Because she doesn't have to.]

[Sorry, Fukawa. There's more suffering to be had. It's almost like it's the best week for it.]

... [Pyrrha seems largely unsure of saying anything. Should she? What would it mean if she did, would everyone hate her for this? Maybe she should, why did she even do that, and how was she supposed to know that...

She sniffles, bringing up an arm to wipe her eyes.]

You don't have to listen if you don't want to.

Of course I will. That's what friends are for, isn't it?

[It's funny. She's not stuttering anymore but... she still doesn't exactly feel confident. Even so-- she knows she has a friend at home too. Pyrrha probably really was her friend for a while now, she was just too scared to accept it.]

[She isn't stuttering, she's speaking quite clearly, as a matter of fact. As a matter of fact, Pyrrha's thought of a lot of people here as her friends, for better or worse. She misses some of them.]

...[She lets out a sigh, that turns into a deep breath. A sort of, confidence-inspiring trick she learned a long time ago. Here we go.]

It was... a dream of myself at the Vytal festival. [She leans back.] That's... it's a festival where all the Hunters academies come together in one place to fight for a championship. It's an end-of-the-year activity.

[Fukawa curls in and just lets her take it at her own pace. Gives her some time to absorb the stuff she's not familiar with anyway.]

So let me get this straight... at the end of the year schools have this sort of battle royal to see who's the strongest?

[Considering their goal is to be some kind of heroes that's not such a strange concept. It's amazing how much she can accept now as opposed to some three weeks ago.]

It's... part of it. It's actually a tournament that's part of a larger festival. There was a great war in Remnant, between all the kingdoms centuries before my time, but it all ended on the island of Vytal, and since then the festival was created to celebrate world peace.

[She's... rambling, and she's definitely aware of that. Given how much she's learned from everyone else, a little history isn't bad. It helps to get this out first.]

Every two years, a kingdom was chosen to host the festival, and the tournament was created to test the strengths of warriors from all the kingdoms. It was meant to be safe, and for people to strive to be the best they could be.

[There's a brief pause on the word 'safe']

I see. So it's an important tradition to you.

[Fukawa is particularly grateful for the history lesson, considering how different it is from everything she's used to. But that... gives her a bad feeling. A purpose like promoting peace and striving for self improvement... she knows that can't be what really happened, considering Pyrrha's attitude now.]

So... what happened?

It's an important tradition to everyone. [It's televised across the world. Everyone watches it. It's just about one of the most important parts of the year, in Pyrrha's mind and many others.

That makes what she saw that much worse.]

Someone... got hurt. [She shakes her head.] More then hurt, they... were killed.

[More death... she was worried about that. It seems as they've been here everyone's remembered people they've lost. Even her. The people she worried about the most were okay for now but-- even she had to remember what happened to Yuta...]

Was... it someone you knew?

[Always more death, just when Pyrrha thought it would finally stop. The six that died just a few days ago were enough to destroy Pyrrha's good mood, this had just destroyed her entirely.

After a moment's pause, she shook her head, her voice quiet and strained.]

No, it was a girl I only just met in the tournament. I only met her... in the final round, where we fought.

[It takes a moment for the full meaning of those words to set in. When it does... Fukawa still feels terrible-- because this is something that upsets Pyrrha and she can't just brush that off. But... she's also relieved that's all it was.

So she just scoots over closer and pulls Pyrrha in, letting the girl lean on her.]

You don't have to tell me how it happened if you don't want to.

[As Fukawa scoots closer and pulls Pyrrha in, that's when things start to break down further. Pyrrha's body gives a little shudder at the thoughts working their way through her mind. How it all seemed to just happen so fast, and slow down at the same time.

Tears sting in her eyes, the redhead blinking quickly to get them out.]

I don't... even know how it happened. We were fighting as it should be, but there were... so many blades, and they all just came for me. So I...

[Another shudder, now that she's actually getting this out to someone, it's bothering her even more because it doesn't make sense.]

I-It was so quick.

...you were scared.

[She understands it. Not many people can face a deadly weapon without fear. She wouldn't have been able to, even with all the training in the world, probably. Well-- not her.]

I can't imagine how that feels.

[Funny, coming from a serial killer. But... it's true. She can't remember the moments before those crimes. It's like a giant black hole in her memory that no one can give back to her. But even though this is hurting Pyrrha so much right now--]

...it's selfish, but... I'm glad that it wasn't you that died.

I... [No, she does too. She's glad she's still alive, and she was scared. But even so, some part of this is just too much.]

I was. It was horrible. I didn't even know this girl, and I just... murdered her.

[Not to mention, the whole fight was televised. The whole world saw Pyrrha Nikos, champion of good, kill someone. She breaths deeply, attempting to steady herself,
though it just makes her shake.]

It wasn't how it was suppose to go. It's not how it's supposed to be.

...no, it wasn't. It's not.

[Fukawa never doubted that. Because she's been staying in this room with this girl for weeks now. And this girl... this girl who called her friend, who wanted to protect people, who smiles and just makes the room brighter... this girl would never wish death upon anyone.]

You're not alone. Whatever happened... you're still you.

[And if anyone would scorn her for it, Fukawa would fight them.]

And I know that you'll just keep getting stronger. After all... if even someone like me can make a promise to never kill someone again... I'm sure you'll have no problem protecting everyone someday.
