[For the first time in several weeks there is no new memorial in the garden. No new body in the morgue, no bloody mess for the roombas to clean. Choromatsu is still in need of time to heal and constant vigilance but he's alive. They're all alive for once on a Sunday and, even with the terrible realizations their returning memories may bring, there's a sense of hope for the first time in a long time.

There is no new floor this week.

I know what that shit feels like all too well, but that don't mean notin'. If I jumped on the friendship PAL express, that would be going against what makes me comfortable.

I just....... Clarith, he's a program. Please, for the love of whatever god, deity, or spaghetti monster you worship, do not trust him 100%. They could still have access to his system, and are letting him play nice with you for the ratings. They could still trigger a killswitch and he'll kill you without a second thought. He's a computer program that was designed for murder. Not a friendly little paper clip that helps with your homework.

The murder thing? An AI, unless it has it programmed into it, would never consider murder. It would see no point in it. It has to be programmed to understand it, and with what sounds like a evolving AI like PAL? You can't escape base programming unless someone goes in and deletes it. Which risks damaging a lot of the personality and things the AI has learned. That's like basic computer science.

I meant more that... what if he's more like Kip in that... he's programmed to make a show, rather than to hate us and wish us dead with every wire of his electronic little heart?

That makes him even more dangerous. The need to make a good show would win out over making friends and keeping us safe. Unless he thought that would make a good show. I mean look how easily he killed Kip for this show?

Well, yeah, that's why I hated Kip at first, too, like. Even if it was for the show and he didn't actually wish ill on us, that didn't make the kidnapping and murder any less unforgivable. What I'm trying to say is...

Kip said he couldn't help us in certain ways because of his contract. PAL's programming's like a contract of his own--one he can't break, not completely. If that's the case, then... doesn't hating him or not kind of not matter?

He's part of this show. Our real enemies--the people we need to move against--are the showrunners.

And right now, PAL's the only one in this building with access to them. The only one who could lead us to them.

I never said I hated PAL, I just won't ever trust him like Clarith does. I can't. That's like... I can't... Trust things or people that have hurt me or made me feel vulnerable like he did when he took my powers...

But I do hate the showrunners, more than anything.

Securing PAL in one form or another might give us enough of a lead to find them. Whatever approach people take towards that is fine with me. I want to survive more than I want to either make friends or get even.

AI can totally be homicidal jackasses, though, I mean, I'm just saying. I'm pretty sure nobody specifically programmed Omega to do what he did. That's just how he was. But it...

...Huh. I mean it really...depends on if we're talking about smart AI or like...dumb AI or fragments or something, I guess.

I guess it doesn't matter, because it seems like PAL is more like a dumb AI made to run the mansion and the show and not grow and learn as a person.

...Cuz if he's a smart AI then that might change things.
