Nope. He's super quiet, so when you don't expect it, he comes up to you and stabs you. I think he just got a little eager and let his presence be known, which is why you ran. It was his first stabbing, after all.

[ He reaches a leg down to try and nudge the thing away, then pulls it back up to avoid a stabbing. ]
