Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

[He stops in the doorway when he sees Mai just...standing...there... Real contemplative lot around him, aren't they? Sure, he likes a good think, too, but he also likes being social and talking to people about the mysteries of the universe or whatever.]

Earth to Mai? [He raps his knuckles on the wall.] Whatever this place is to Mai, are you still of the living?

[He's really gotta start thinking about what comes out of his mouth before he says it.]

Did someone give you a rose? Did Kip give you a rose? [Oh god. Oh god. Nari and Lee and anyone else who knows The Bachelor has to know about this. PRONTO ASAP.]

[head. tilt. did takumi tell you. he was kind of creeping in the trees there.]

You've got a rose. And Kip was in the garden--I mean, I saw him there, being all stupid shirtless and dealing with the roses and all. So unless you picked one yourself... [Which she just admitted she didn't.] So you probably did, too, and he gave you a rose.

Oh. It's probably because of the day. ...Maybe. I don't understand people like that.

Because of the day? Is...is it a holiday?

Supposedly it's late spring. I thought it was January 29th.

Is that important? Is that where you were pulled from? [Obviously.] I don't think there's anything important after New Years until Valentines, I think, but depends on the universe and culture and time...

[Long, awkward pause. If you expected her to actually say anything...]

It isn't anything important.

Was there like...was there a ceremony, though, that's the point I want to get at. Was there fanfare?

...No? Probably. ...Takumi was hiding in a tree. I didn't point him out.

...No, I...dddddon't think that counts. It sure counts as Takumi being creepy, but not as fanfare. Usually...these kind of shows tend to have a part where the bachelor in question gives people he's interested in roses. But supposedly this isn't a straight ripoff of that show, so...I dunno...kinda weird...

...[She just goes back to contemplating the rose.] But I'm not interesting.

That's not the kind of in--y'know what, what the fuck, of course you're interesting. They wouldn't put someone boring on a show unless you eliminate them the first week to make the audience feel smart and good for calling it. You don't say much, but fuck, that alone is kinda interesting.

Weird and creepy, but weird and creepy is, at least, interesting.

[can you tell he's not good at building people up, only pulling them down]

Just--just gonna point out that where I'm from, I can't get people to shut up, so someone quiet with the ability to probably sneak up on people and get the drop on them, it's a little, y'know... Not that this is a war zone that'll get anyone killed for it, I'm just saying.
