Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

Good morning to you.

[Looking not the slightest bit different than he had the day they arrived save only for the fact that he wasn't wearing the jacket to the black suit he'd been given, Ardyn stepped into the garden and leaned over slightly to see just what kind of plant Yuuri was watering.]

Well met, my lady--Yuuri, wasn't it?

That's me. Good morning!

[ She sounds reasonably cheery considering she's on the verge of looking like death warmed over. She's tending to the lilies, appropriately enough, but it looks like she's been working along the whole row for a while now. ]

Are you here to see the flowers or are you thinking of getting your hands in the dirt?

I was planning on the former, but if you are in need of help I wouldn't mind learning a few things about gardening.

[serrata]

[ Oh those are the magic words. She practically starts sparkling. ]

Well, it's not like we don't have the time for it! And if I'm supposed to be Champion Green Thumb then you won't find a better teacher -- well, while we're in here, anyway.

[ She straightens up a bit and dusts her hands off in a surprisingly businesslike sort of way. ]

Where do you want to start? With the flowers or with some of the greenery?

I can defer to whichever you prefer working on. [Ardyn laughed lightly, glancing over the plants again.] My country is...a bit lacking in plant life, so I am utterly inexperienced with any of this. I can't even name a single one on sight.

[serrata]

Well, in that case, we can start with the flowers! I'll teach you all their names while we're tending to them.

[ you're gonna get educated ]

Which ones do you like the look of most? We can start from there?

Let's see...I think that I quite like this one, actually. [He gestured to a bright orange tiger lily, looking interested.] It's quite the color; rather like a sunset, isn't it?

[serrata]

[ GOOD TASTE IN FLOWERS, ARDYN ]

That's a tiger lily! They can come in pink, too, but I think these orange ones are nicest. They're lovely and bright, aren't they?

[ maybe they should start with orange flowers then if he likes tiger lilies... ]

It's quite a striking color, yes.

[serrata]

Then how about...

[ she looks around for a moment before pointing out a little patch of bright, primary colour blossoms. ]

Those! They're zinnias and they're related to sunflowers. They're a lot more colourful though and their petals are a bit different.

It's an impressive arrangement.

[there's probably one that matches your hair if you look close enough, you nerd]

One would have to travel quite far from Insomnia to see anything like it. Even then, flowers are a bit harder to come by than simple greenery is.

[serrata]

Is there not a lot of flora and fauna in your world, then? I can't even imagine that.

[ she's picturing some sort of huge, expansive desert, dotted with only a handful of green patches. ]

[depending on where you go, you're more right than you think]

It depends on where one goes; the region around the capital city is a dry and rocky climate. Further out in the Lucian continent one can find plantlife in between the damage left by the Astral War--I've no doubt it will recover further given time. The country of Tenebrae does well enough in that regard; a blue flower called a sylleblossom is the most common one there.

Generally speaking, apart from the Niflheim desert, one finds more plant and animal life the further they travel from Insomnia.

[ It sounds, sure enough, like a totally different world. Not just because of the names and the way Ardyn talks about them. But she's spent so long surrounded on all sides by decaying urban mess that actually being in the middle of nature like that, even dry and rocky like he says, sounds amazing. ]

It all sounds so beautiful... and so different from anything I've ever seen. I grew up in the middle of a city... so I've never seen anything more more wild than the countryside on a family trip. I almost wish now I had while I'd had the chance.

If we should be fortunate, perhaps all of you will get the chance to see it once this is over. The world's safe enough to manage in the daylight, and it would be my distinct honor to have any of you as my personal guests in and around the capital city.

[serrata]

I'll be looking forward to it. If they can bring us all here then they must be able to send us back -- or send us where we'd like to go at least. Letting us visit each other is the least they could do after all this.

Precisely. It must be possible at least, if there's a method to have brought us here in the first place.

[serrata]

Maybe it's... some kind of machine? After all, this is apparently a space station and they have a computer running everything... who knows what sort of technology they might have alongside that.

[ where's hinata hajime and his wormhole machine when you need him ]

I wouldn't know anything about that, but given the state of the technology I've seen so far you may yet not be far off.

[serrata]

... Maybe it's worth asking. If he's even allowed to give us a straight answer to something like that.

We were driven to the front of the house in those cars... but before that we had to have been brought here and put into them. There's no reason for him to refuse to answer that, is there?

There's plenty of reason for that, even as simple as 'because he doesn't care to'.
