Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

Presumably. It's better than nothing.

[ This is what she gets for straight up refusing to sleep on Monday. ]

But it's... it's so...

[ she just flaps the unitard in the air like she can't even articulate what she thinks of it. ]

Is it at least comfortable enough to sleep in?

[shrug]

It's okay. It's more practical to walk in than a ballgown, too.

[serrata]

[ a pause as she remembers the big embarrassing spill she took the instant she stepped out of the car last night. ]

... I can't really argue that.

Is it easy to get into at least?

[nojohnyouare]

It's fine. The sleeve stretches over the device.

[She pokes at her PIP again and flips through the rules.]

Lots of functions.

[serrata]

[ a little nod in agreement. ]

Lots.

It's funny there's no calling or texting, though. It's supposed to be some kind of smartphone isn't it? Maybe they didn't want to give us any excuses not to talk face to face.

Texting? ...Like a chat room on a computer. Right?

[serrata]

Right. Or through emails or-- well, you know what I mean.

We can take notes so clearly we can type... oh, but then again.

[ she makes a stinkface. ]

Do you think they'd be able to see everything we say?

[nojohnyouare]

...Maybe. In code?

[serrata]

We'd have to set one up in advance for that to work, wouldn't we?

Do you know any?

[serrata]

Morse code, maybe? I only know how to sound out two things, though...

...Bore them into letting us go.

[serrata]

We must be doing that already, what with all the kissing and killing we've not started to do yet.

[ sitcom laugh track. ]

Maybe. But be careful. I don't know how to deal with people like this.

[serrata]

[ She goes quiet at that for a moment. ]

I don't think any of us do. It's bad enough that we're stuck here but none of this makes sense. Not least of all the people keeping us here.

Space. Other worlds. Memory loss. ...I should know more.

[serrata]

... the memory loss is the really worrying part, isn't it? Who knows what we understood about all this before we forgot it. If we knew, maybe we'd be able to find a way back out.

[ ... which is probably the point of the memory loss. ]

Like how Lee thinks we agreed to this.

[serrata]

[ She goes quiet for a moment, mulling that over.

Agreeing to this... ]

... what could they have offered you to make you agree to this, Kawasumi-san? Can you think of anything?

[nojohnyouare]

[She shakes her head emphatically.]

The thing I'm living for isn't here.

[serrata]

... mine either.

[ she purses her lips, not wanting to say the thought that occurs to her as if saying out loud will magically make it true if it wasn't before. but she sort of has to. ]

Do you think... those things... might have been threatened? To make us come here?

[nojohnyouare]

[When Yuuri says this, Mai's breath catches. She tightens a fist at her side and starts to shake all over. For the first time since they got here, Mai's facial expression is changing from a vague neutral, and while she'll show fear at the meeting the next day, this time she's scowling.]

No. They can't, if they so much as touch her--!

[serrata]

[ she looks visibly and rather understandably startled before putting up her hands in a placating sort of way. ]

K--Kawasumi-san, it's fine! It-- it was just a theory. It probably isn't even true. If it was true then wouldn't they want us to remember it? So, it's-- it's fine.

[nojohnyouare]

[Mai clenches her fist at her side before relaxing it. She focuses to slow her breathing down and push those feelings far enough to bury under a blank face.]

Right. It's fine. Sayuri will be fine.
