Week 1

[After being introduced to their Counselor, the inmates are left to their own devices to explore the open areas of the ship as they please. The counselor's office hours are available if any of the inmates wish to speak to him privately and, throughout the week, the cook and the janitor can be found here and there.

Each morning the inmates are awakened by Dr. Price's voice over the intercoms located in each cell announcing the time as 7 am. Breakfast is served each morning in the mess hall from 7 am to 8 am, lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..

Right. Yeah, that's where the fire comes out, right...

[She might not be up to date on washing machines but at least she knows this much.]

Yes. At least you didn't turn it on, as well.

...yeah. Gosh, this is a lot to take in if I'm gonna have to get used to this place.

Such is life. [She leans over and... turns on the burner, letting the flame show before turning it off.] There. See? Now you'll remember.

[At least her hand wasn't on it.]

Yeah... I guess I just need to practice with this stuff a lot. I shoulda remembered that from before...

[She sighs.]

I guess I can see how this is easier once you're used to it, but I miss just being able to light a fire and cook something over it the normal way.

Ignorance born from inexperience is, at least, fixable.

[AKA hey at least you can stop being an idiot now that you know.]

Such work is fine for camping but we have to learn how to be civilized now that we have the technology.

Well, I mean, there were stoves that you could put wood under ... but I get your point. I wonder if I'll miss this thing when I get out of here, huh?

Convenience does create compliance. Keep reminding yourself that this won't last forever.

Still gonna see if I can find any of this stuff to take back home, though.

...do you want to see if we can pool our money and buy one of these things if we can make some money when we get out of here.

Actually, yes. I wouldn't mind that. Maybe not this particular piece of equipment but most of these luxuries would be quite welcome.

Yeah, I'll have to see if there's anything else I'd want. I've really gotta check around some to see about it.

I'm sure there's some convenience or other you'd like.

Oh, definitely. But I'd imagine there's still economics to it, right?

I suppose.

...and I guess I'd need to know how it works in case it breaks or something.

How good are you with machinery?

Not... at all.

Then you need to find someone who is.
