Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

Library

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[The library is already of interest to Margulis, being possibly the largest collection of books he's ever seen. Granted, most of them seem to be the sort if pulp sci-fi people in his universe have been snickering at for centuries, but there still might be something worth looking into. And there is...he just wasn't thinking about it being the Griffin.]

Notes on the history of space travel? Have you been able to tell if they pertain specifically to this universe, or one of the others...represented here?

The description does seem to be pointing towards the space station we are currently on. [He flips to a page with an illustration that somewhat resembles the floor plan on their P.I.P.] I suppose that makes sense, since it seems they brought only us here, and not anything else from our worlds. Still, there might be parallels to some degree.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

I'm more interested in what's unique to here. It may give us some insight as to where we are. Or, at the very least, information in this world's history that may prove useful should we escape to a planet.

[He nods.] All this is new to me, so I have less room for making comparisons. The idea of space travel was not even something talked about, as far as I can recall.

I wonder how many are from worlds primitive enough for this to be new territory...I suppose they don't want a large population who might be able to recognize their technology.

[He seems to bristle a bit at the word "primitive," his voice becoming even sharper and more clipped.] I suppose not. But they have rules against interfering with their "technology," already, so it does not seem to matter too much who recognizes them.
misplacedxsheath: (What a waste.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Predictability and comfort. The more unfamiliar everything is, the more someone is inclined to want to return to comfortable territory. They want to see us desperate enough to kill and risk whatever twisted punishment they have in mind for failure to escape detection.

Well then, it is too bad for them that I intend to take this as a chance to learn more about their time, instead of attempting to return to my own for now. I can wait for a very long time indeed, besides.
misplacedxsheath: (I can afford to be smug.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, there's a reason they say no plan survives first contact with the enemy. The exceptional are difficult to predict.

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Was that a compliment? He's unsure.] Well, it appears we were all selected for our "exceptional" qualities, so they have apparently taken that fact into account as well.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
All that means is that they're likely prepared to adapt. We'll have to see how quickly.

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. [A pause] You sound like you have experience with people of this sort.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've dealt with a few reprehensible individuals in my time, yes. Beyond that, as a military commander, I have my own experience in predicting evolving situations.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Although I suppose the current situation is too new to tell what direction it may evolve in?
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
With any certainty, anyway. I have some theories, but they'll require further investigation.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Are any of them related to that one locked door?
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's where the Overseers came from. If one of my theories is correct, that may be where the exit is located.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
That seems likely. [Another pause, as he ponders] Do you think there may also be passages in those rooms they have claimed as their offices? After all, they probably would not want to be caught coming in and out, would they?
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Either a passage, or...this could be a virtually constructed environment. It would explain how it's do pristine and why we haven't seen any staff. In that case, the exit would be a simple interface terminal.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Concerned})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
[A few blinks.] Virtually...constructed? Is that different from a normal construction?
fatherofsin: (5)

[personal profile] fatherofsin 2017-02-14 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Think like an illusion.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Concerned})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He turns around to see the other man there.] A mirage, but under another's control? But such an elaborate one is usually the stuff of fantasy. [He knocks on one wall, as if to demonstrate.]
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-14 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they're very much real. A common leisure tool in my own universe.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Concerned})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-14 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
This does not feel like a leisurely use to me. Although I suppose our "Overseers" are enjoying it...
fatherofsin: (7)

[personal profile] fatherofsin 2017-02-14 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have to be leisurely for us to be enjoyed, no.

[ Which is part of why Seth even came here. He just happened in on an interesting conversation. ]

Also, pardon my interruption. Still... It's something to consider...

[ And now he's trailing off in thought. ]
