Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

[Hi, bird-thingy. Yurika peers over his shoulder and blinks.]

Even things like that are different between our "worlds," aren't they?

Indeed they are. I am attempting to deduce how things have transpired in this world, for now. [A pause] As well as, perhaps, locate a guide on the construction of this kind of ship.

I found a lot on faster-than-light travel. Do you think this place has an engine like that? But from what I can see, it's actually more of a space station than a ship.

[humanitarianherbalist]

It appears that "space stations" require propulsion as well, both to move the components into position and to adjust their "orbits." So it is possible that this station possesses such an engine.

Even with that, FTL capability would be a little overkill, wouldn't you think?

[humanitarianherbalist]

I suppose. [A pause] Perhaps they possess a personal vehicle with such a capability.

[ratherdoweddings]

Something they launch from here, like an exploration pod or a robot?

[humanitarianherbalist]

Or a means of escape, if their threats and punishments fail.

[ratherdoweddings]

But if they just left us here, they could still do that with regular engines.

[humanitarianherbalist]

[He looks thoughtful.] Perhaps. Maybe they have another colleague who is currently not here, but who they might find themselves needing to pick up. Speed would be important then, to get their colleague here as soon as possible.

[ratherdoweddings]

Oh, that's true! Like their boss, who they didn't want to risk being on the station!

[humanitarianherbalist]

Indeed. Although the question then becomes what circumstances would result in them performing such a pick-up.

[ratherdoweddings]

...If somebody won, right?

[humanitarianherbalist]

That...would be a reason, if their boss wished to view the results personally. And with less people, it would be safer for said boss as well.

[ratherdoweddings]

It's the only one I can think of right now. I mean, there's always the idea that those two are working on their own, but at least one of them doesn't even seem to like this place, and the other is hard to get a read on.

[humanitarianherbalist]

Indeed. Not to mention that it seems most space stations require more than just two people to keep functioning, yet these two do not seem to be performing any of those duties. And the more people there are here, the more likely it is there is someone who can give orders to all of them.

It sounds like you've already been making a lot of headway into those books! Since your world didn't have things like this, right?

[humanitarianherbalist]

It did not, that is true. But it is important to learn, so that I may better understand our situation here.

[ratherdoweddings]

It's definitely good to be dedicated! Especially if it's to understanding what's going on in a place like this. That way, I'm sure we'll all make it out fine!

[humanitarianherbalist]

Hopefully. I do not wish to prove those Overseers right in any way.

[ratherdoweddings]

I don't think anyone does. So we've got a good chance of making it, don't you think?
