Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

[Yurika waves as she walks in, humming some bouncy song or other.] Hello, Shadow-san! Are you reading about how to fix this place if it breaks down?

Hm? [That's more about the humming, because look at those ears, of course he could hear the humming.] Oh. Yes, I'm hoping to get some insight into that. Hopefully if something breaks, there's some kind of maintenance staff, but if not, it wouldn't hurt to know.

Or it might be of use if we want to intentionally try to...alter something.

I guess they did say we only weren't supposed to wreck the cameras, didn't they?
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
No, the rules cover just about everything. [For double checking purposes, he brings it up on his PIP.] Let's see...6A--yes, "surveillance camera, door, lock, wall, floor, ceiling, computer, air vent, or other structure or machinery".

[He glances back up at her.] Still, if there's a loophole we can find, or if someone decides they want to press their luck...
ratherdoweddings: (there's usually lots to learn)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-17 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
As long as we can manage to keep everyone safe. If you're executed for failing at their exercise like you said, who knows what else they'll do.

People aren't executed for lesser infractions, but who really knows what an 'official punishment' is. Seems it's variable depending on what it is.

For some of them, it's punishment by the Overseers. Jamie does at least appear to be the weaker link, the one more sympathetic, so I wonder if they have to be in agreement. [It's morning yet, which means Bolton's office hours in the one conference room. Shadow stares past the tables and bookshelves toward the drawn blinds.]

[Yurika looks over there as well and sighs.] They didn't seem to be in agreement about the motive, though.

They're working at cross purposes but also work together as partners. Could it really be as simple as seeing if someone cracks under the pressure, or if we hold together collectively...?
ratherdoweddings: (don't ever think you're alone)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-18 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean there could be another motive they have?
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-19 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's every possibility. The Overseers might just be here following orders, true, or they might have a bigger hand in this. But the Benefactors? We know nothing of them.
ratherdoweddings: (like with the power of love)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-19 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's right, there's someone they're working for.

The Doctor makes it sound like it's a near-basic type of experiment in psychology and human nature. [Ignore the fact that not everyone is human.] That's all well and good, but this all seems too elaborate for it to just be that, doesn't it?
ratherdoweddings: (we can beat anything)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-19 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially since they went to all the trouble of grabbing us from different universes and putting us in a space station. What could justify that?
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-19 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I can buy an experiment. I just think it's something larger in scope than what we're able to see. I don't know that the Overseers even know, if that's the case.
ratherdoweddings: (there must be more i could achieve)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-19 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we are allowed to investigate, so that's just what we'll have to do, right?
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Likes: encouraging others. Dislikes: conspiracies. Noted.] Right. Everywhere we can, and into the Overseers. We'll find something, and hopefully it'll lead us to all the answers we seek.
ratherdoweddings: (don't ever think you're alone)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder why they even hold visiting hours with us. We're obviously not happy with being trapped, and there can't be something they want to help us with.
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-20 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Some of the answers have been useful. I wonder... [Squinty thinky squint.] If they're just pawns in this as we are. They have their roles to play, and the Benefactors see what happens. [He does think of breaking rule 6. A lot. What if the Benefactors don't actually care all that much?]
ratherdoweddings: (if you know your own worth)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Different pieces on the gameboard, doing different things. We're pawns and they're just like... the horses. More powerful, but still constrained!
damnfourthemerald: (Default)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-20 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, the knights. Different rules, move in a strange way. Whittle down the pieces until you've cornered the king. [He shuts the book he was reading for emphasis. Hasn't exactly been reading it the past few minutes anyway.] Checkmate.
ratherdoweddings: (that will help me beat the odds)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-20 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Basically! And once you beat the king, then you beat the player behind them!

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-02-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The pawns are still important pieces, to extend the metaphor. They can even win the game.

...Now I just feel like digging out a chess set out of the game room, augh. [You did this to yourself.]
ratherdoweddings: (if you're determined enough)

Sounds like fun to me! My dad and I always used to play when I was a kid.
