Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

"Kip Larimer" does sound like an American name... then again... do you think it's actually his real one?

It's definitely too over the top. But that does explain the way we turned up here. "Too much" was apparently the dress code.

[ it sure explains those heels that she has yet to so much as look at so much as wear again. ]

But then we have those outfits in our wardrobes as well... from one extreme to another, it looks like.

[ Wait until her autobiography gets regained, then people can see how goddamn loyal she was even after Mikaela died. And she remains ever more loyal after her own death. Love is just rare. ]

[Junpei continues not to be the most sensitive of souls, but he tries to keep his voice on the gentle side all the same.]

Clarith, others here have probably asked you about this already, but... why do you say that? You're quiet, sure, but, I mean, if everyone on the planet were as polite and generous as you, we'd probably end both war and world hunger in five years.

I think it's probably for some kind of suspense. They keep telling us this is a TV show, don't they? I can't imagine who'd want to watch us, but...

[ And satisfied that there's no air bubbles ready to ruin her cupcakes, she carefully slides the tray into the oven and sets it to start baking. ]

You can imagine all the chatter, can't you? All the things people would be wondering about the rest of the house or maybe rooms they're hoping we'll be able to use.

[ She nods. ]

Well... yellow roses, for example. They mean "jealousy". Primroses can mean "desperation". And red spider lilies can mean abandonment or a neverending separation. And orange lilies just mean "hate" or "revenge".

[ hanakotoba is HARDCORE ]

There's plenty more like that but I'm sure you get the idea.

Someone that kind is rare. Sayuri... She was the only one who cared for years, at school. Even now, it's just her and Yuuichi.

[ Sounding exceptionally cheerful: ]

Violence! Kawasumi-san, I've misjudged you!

[ ... and then she picks up her own pillow. ]

That wasn't a challenge, was it?

...........I'm a Netsuma. Where I come from... Netsumas are... Considered sinful demons who shouldn't exist. S-So...

[ She's doing better here, but she's a lot more bitter than she's letting on. She's just meek around other people. A people pleaser. ]

Separation and revenge...

[He repeats it softly to himself, thinking before he meets Yuuri's eyes again.]

Those are all there in the garden? Uh, do you think any of them stand out in particular? I'll take a look, too, but, ah.

[He makes a vague gesture that probably means, "I am a useless male stereotype and wouldn't know an azalea from my ass."]

[ There's a pause as she continues snipping away at the rose bush a little more gently this time -- she's trying to tame some of those sticking-out branches and make this poor bush look less chewed up. ]

It's... nothing, really. [ she can't really say she's 'fine' when he's so obviously called her out on not being okay. ] I'm just being silly -- just overreacting a bit.

I just... when I was getting changed for bed. There was a scar I didn't have before coming here. On my leg.

[serrata]

[ blink. ]

Like me?

[ well, obviously, if she were gone, Yuki and Kurumi would miss her, but... ]

[desperateprayer]

[ Be the bisexual, Mai. ]

...I'm glad you have people. I hope... You get to see them again.

... It's nothing.

[ which doesn't mean "no, I'm not" ]

It's nothing for you to get worried about, Kawasumi-san.

Oh! So this garden... it's not your work, then.

[ That makes more sense but she'd actually kind of thought that maybe he would've had a bit more input into the house he was going to be staying in. ]

Did the network design it?

[serrata]

[ So it's something more spiritual, then... she nods along, mostly understanding the explanation. It's definitely one of the least weird concepts she's been introduced to this week. ]

You were hoping you could open an exit.

[ It's more of a statement than a question and she gives him a smile. ]

But no luck?

[serrata]

[ she looks visibly and rather understandably startled before putting up her hands in a placating sort of way. ]

K--Kawasumi-san, it's fine! It-- it was just a theory. It probably isn't even true. If it was true then wouldn't they want us to remember it? So, it's-- it's fine.

[serrata]

It smells like...

[ Another sniff.

And then she finally turns to the cooker. And it clicks. ]

The curry--!

[ She lunges for the pot and yanks it off the stove, hastily snapping the heat off as she does so. Some of the curry slops over the edge of the pan but hey, it's not actively burning anymore. Now it's just a mess. ]

[ネツマ. 熱魔...?]

That sounds like Japanese. But your name and the places you live--those are in a more European-style language, aren't they? So, being a Netsuma... does it mark you as foreign in some way?

[serrata]

[ Luckily for you, Lee, it's pretty good! It's a bit less on the spice factor than a Western curry but it's still some good stuff.

... for now, anyway. ]

Oh-- y--yes, I'm fine. [ she gives Lee a distracted little smile, still peeling an apple as she does so. ] I'm not in the way, am I?

Something odd...

[ Yuuri falls, just for a moment, into a troubled silence. ]

What... sort of odd...?
