the mock mingle

[An hour ago you woke up in a bed that wasn't yours, awakened by a chirpy, feminine voice coming from the device on your non-dominant arm. The voice cheerfully requests that you exit your sleeping quarters and to please make your way to the the main deck of the ship for a debriefing on your circumstances.

It was around this time you might have noticed the clothes you last remember wearing are gone and replaced with this little number. If you take a moment to check out the Personal Identification Program on your arm, you'll find a touch screen with a few icons that lead to a series of 21 profiles and a series of apps that lead to note-taking functions and a number of customization appearance screens. The profiles all contain a photo of each Champion, their name and title, their age, species and world of origin.

As you stumbled out of your chrome-y quarters (into an equally chrome-y hallway), with every step the floor lights up under your feet, illuminating the dark ship a little at a time. On one side of the hallway are a series of mechanical doors with screen pads embedded on the walls next to them. A quick flash of your PIP will open them for you without hassle. On the opposite side of the hallway are a long string of windows showing nothing but vast amounts of stars and the deep, dark blackness of deep space. Once you reach the end of the hallway you'll find a large central living space with 20 other people, the same people from the profiles, either there already or filing in along with you. Floating well above everyone's heads in the middle of the room is a large computer screen. Once everyone piled in, the screen blinked to life and the same voice from your PIPs greeted you in the same peppy tone from before.

The voice introduced herself as the Champion Excellence Control Environment or C.E.C.E. before welcoming you to the Deep Space Champion Excellence Program, explaining that you were selected for this program based on being the best in your particular field in your particular world, hence the title of "Champion". In this program you will be expected to live communally together here on the ship for as long as possible. The ship is fully-functional and fully-stocked for an extended stay.

Oh? You don't want to stay and participate in the program? That's alright, there's an easy fix to that! All you have to do is kill one of your fellow Champions and not get caught. That is easy enough, right? Right.

When the debriefing is complete, the screen dims but doesn't turn off completely. If need be C.E.C.E. is available to answer any more questions you have throughout the week. For now, you're free to explore the ship as you like. There's the communal dining hall, a zero gravity room, a kitchen, a holo deck, the central living area and the personal quarters everyone woke up in.

Go make some friends, dears, you may be here a while.]

I know. Just...

[The principle of the matter even if his family is elsewhere worrying about other things? Not like these Overseers have them.

April's Acres had meant something to him. To his family. It was ripped apart by death.]

I know. I was...gonna rebuild when I got the chance to get home anyways. Just might be longer returning than I expected.

[It doesn't need more blood for its new foundation mortar. Not if he still has a say in it.]

have_a_heart: Kanade dressed as Red Riding Hood. (i guess we're running now)

[personal profile] have_a_heart 2017-01-11 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I was not able to see much anyway. ...Thank you. I will get the bandages.

[The picture that shows for him would be of a town that gives a really old fashioned sort of vibe. Smallish 1-2 story homes, no skyscrapers, roads made of brick, etc.

Anyone nearby him probably would note the temperature suddenly increases just enough to be noticeable upon seeing that, but the effect goes away pretty quick as he gets himself back to his normal bored state of mind.]

Huh, and here I thought it burned to the ground years ago. [He yawns loudly.] Can't see why I'm supposed to care when I was the one who did it.

Woah, hey--

[Time for parent instinct!]

You might need a little more than bandages!

Reincarnation? [Yeah, he's heard about that.] I assume that they do not keep their memories in that case either.
have_a_heart: Kanade disappointed. (so now what)

[personal profile] have_a_heart 2017-01-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Kanade tilts her head.] But this is minor, is it not? Nothing is even broken.
have_a_heart: Kanade linefacing cluelessly. (i don't know why you even bother)

[personal profile] have_a_heart 2017-01-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
That is what they say. It makes sense.

[personal profile] semperperatus 2017-01-11 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Just because nothing's broken, doesn't mean its not serious. I need to look at it to make sure, if you can roll you sleeve up.

[If not he will get the first aid scissor on that sleeve.]
have_a_heart: Waking up. (mnnnn)

[personal profile] have_a_heart 2017-01-11 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
All right. [Kanade doesn't even cringe as she pulls it up. That is definitely blood, anyway.] You must do this a lot.

[Then maybe they shouldn't talk about convincing a possibly sentient AI to help them out right in front of the possibly sentient AI, but he's not gonna say that. In front of the possibly sentient AI.]

It might require a more tender touch. Or someone better with computer logic. [Not him, is what he's saying. But if someone else wants to give it a go, by all means...]

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-01-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Even if it gets gassed, that isn't something that would stick around. You might have to be wary of it seeping into the plant life, the water maybe, depending, but there's no reason you can't still rebuild once this nonsense is over with. [That's about as optimistic as he's going to get. A little bit of ego talking along the way, too.]
mikooon: (yell- behind cavemen)

[personal profile] mikooon 2017-01-11 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh.]

It can't be that bad!

What sort of time was that? [Time travel does pique his interest, even if he can't exactly play with time anymore, in this place.]

As to our captors, they wouldn't be stupid enough to allow us to just find them. So far as anyone has been able to see so far, we've access to a certain number of rooms before we find no more open to us. They don't go anywhere, but this place must have more interior and more levels, locked away from us.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Speaking})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-01-11 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, perhaps those of us who were dead have been brought back to life somehow. [The idea does make him tremble a bit, at the idea of people with such expansive abilities, but he tries to ignore it.] There are stories of those who could accomplish it, even among religious people who believe in an afterlife.
have_a_heart: Kanade linefacing cluelessly. (i don't know why you even bother)

[personal profile] have_a_heart 2017-01-11 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
It has been years... But time does not mean anything there, anyway. Maybe.
damnfourthemerald: (is it me?)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-01-11 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Death is that bad. [If you kill things, they die! You can move faster by running! Don't forget to breathe!] Do not. break. the windows.

[Is it possible they aren't in space, and the view outside is just an illusion, a hologram or even a wallpaper? Yes. Does he want to take that risk? Fuck you, no.]
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-01-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
There were much less people, and the religious leaders were well-known and respected. Transportation was only available to the wealthy, and most travels were made on foot. Human knowledge of the world around them was quite limited as well. [He pauses. It feels odd to be speaking of things in the past tense like that.] At that time, this "electricity" was unknown, or at least not yet widespread. So of course all these things that rely on it were not present as well.

[He blinks at Shadow's next comment.] That is useful to know. Would there perhaps be more filling food available on those other levels? [He doesn't care much himself, but it would be nice to know there was actual food somewhere. Even the "dried" food doesn't match the type of dried food he's used to.]
mikooon: (sad- is this the back way?)

[personal profile] mikooon 2017-01-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[When you live in a virtual reality and your Master is... well. There's no such thing as organic life, so for a moment, Tamamo doesn't react as strongly as everyone else.]

Well, if that's all, I'll be--

[But that's not the ending.

Somewhere, her Master's real body resides. In a coma, perhaps, but alive, and they exist. She doesn't understand it much herself, but when the screen corresponding to her switches to one of a dim-looking pod with a human laying inside, she stops eating.]

You...

[Yes, she understands. By hook or by crook, someone will be dead by Friday.

There's no point in screaming and flailing when there's no target she can hit, and so, Tamamo uncharacteristically swallows down her anger and starts looking around. Without her powers, her physical strength is... negligible, to say the least. Even the Ultimate Caster's Castration Fist is only strong with some magic imbued into her movements.

So...]

Someone just has to be dead, right? Is that all?
humanitarianherbalist: ({Speaking})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-01-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Many people say that time in the afterlife is meant to be meaningless. [He pauses.] What do you mean, "maybe"?
mikooon: (yell- behind cavemen)

[personal profile] mikooon 2017-01-11 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
For now! Let's get out of here. Come, make haste!

[Tamamo's trying to act all calm, but she's not too great at it. She tries to make a swimming motion towards the door, and almost succeeds... but instead, hits the wall right above the door, and gets flung back.] Ow-- come on, can't you just let me out?! Is anyone outside?! Someone, heeelp!

[RUBY, IT'S UP TO YOU TO BE THE SANE ONE]
mikooon: (annoyed- behind darkness)

[personal profile] mikooon 2017-01-11 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Fine, fine. [She still doesn't get it, but whatever. People die when they are killed.]

Then... what else? If this truly is a flying ship above the skies, there must be a captain's deck we can break into!
misplacedxsheath: (Who thought that was a good idea?)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-01-11 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods and moves to lean against the wall, arms crossed.]

Look for disinfectant as well, there ought to be antibacterial ointment.

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-01-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[That is much better, Miss...Champion of Furries. Whatever that means.]

There must be some sort of command center, yes. Nobody has found any doors leading out of the area we're meant to live in--nothing that will open up, at any rate. If there's a ventilation shaft, an access panel, or if we can hack or brute force our way through, we might be able to get somewhere.
damnfourthemerald: (is it me?)

[personal profile] damnfourthemerald 2017-01-11 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
...Of the many worlds people seem to come from, I fail to see what you mean by 'real world'. He lives on Earth. There is a President of the United Federation.
mikooon: (w-well thats- something like this)

[personal profile] mikooon 2017-01-11 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! The moment we find any kind of shaft, we should break in!

[Just like one of those outer space action movies, right?] There must be... an engine, or something! If we break it, we can... [Be left drifting in the expanse forever and die.] Try to redirect course!

[...]

Ah, but, I've got no clue what my world looks like from up here.
