...She was born a twin... And because of a certain other country's queen... She was targeted by assassins her entire childhood. Then, when she was still twelve, her mother died. Her father was already long dead. So at the age of thirteen... She ascended the throne with no real idea how the world really worked or how anything outside of her palace was affected. ...Her betrothal to someone she loved was canceled. And in retaliation, she ordered the extermination of Elphe women until the one he had fallen for was found. This was... This was Mikaela. My dear, dear Mikaela.

[ She sounds... Distant. Tired. ]

...A revolution sparked in the wake of that war. Even though Mikaela was dead and the Lucifenian troops withdrew, it was too much. She had done too many horrible things. And so... They stormed the palace. But instead of finding her, they found her twin brother. She had thought him dead. ...But he wasn't. And he... He traded clothes with her. And sent her out a secret door. ...He was beheaded at the guillotine in her place. And she ended up in a little port town with a monastery. She didn't know how to live. I found her, collapsed and starving. I didn't know who "Rin" was at the time, but... She didn't know how to do anything. It took time for her to do even the most basic of chores.

[ ...She remembers it well. How she had to be taught. She couldn't even cook simple things. Or use a broom. Or anything else. ]

...I... I overheard her tearful confession one night. It was an accident. I realized who she was and what she'd done. That she'd robbed of of Mikaela. That she'd caused so much suffering. ...So I retrieved a knife from my room. I found her on the beach, in tears, tossing a message in a bottle. And I... I almost...

[ ...She doesn't say it. ]

...She caught me. And she begged for me to do it. Because she deserved it as penance for her sins. She was quiet and accepting of death. But I... I couldn't. I couldn't look at her there, like that, so miserable from the weight of her own sins and regret, and just take her life.

[ ...Suddenly a lot of Clarith probably makes sense to a lot of people. ]
