Week 6

[Six weeks. Twenty-three Champions whittled down to just seven. Where the halls of the station once felt crowded and loud now they're empty and echo when someone speaks too loudly. Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night but outside of the usual wake-up call there is no new floor announcement from CECE.

Like the trash compactor last week, the infirmary is pristine and sterile once again. As if nothing had ever happened.]

She was so afraid of us all. Of us finding out and hating her for it. She could use friends, given how much she misses the one she has back home.

[Hm, he's not happy with the outcome, but it's better. He starts to snip at the bangs across the way.]

[It takes Bolton a full second to snap out of his reverie and buffer enough to realize what Kaiba's talking about.]

Nnnnot quite - though if I had the stuff I definitely would've been making these before now.

I found them in that dumbwaiter-looking thing, in my room.

[He blinks a few times.] ...No? But that's your thing. We play every week no matter who's gone.

I don't know if it was ever actually thrown out, it might've gotten put in a box somewhere. But I sure hadn't even thought about it in... Jesus, well, too long.

[Bolton, 35 is not that old.]

When I turned 18 I decided to get, you know, a real ID. I had older friends who would buy me drinks and everything, and I didn't really start going to clubs until I was 21 anyway.

That is pretty weird for it to show up now, then. But it at least sounds like it was meaningful?

[She got a weird coin thing, she's not sure what that's supposed to mean.]

Though- I did want to ask you something else, too. ...Do you think you could. Show me how to make coffee?

[His smile softens but widens at the same time when she asks him about coffee.]

Of course, Pumpkin. I can show you all about the stuff we've got over there.

Yeah, but if anyone's gotten any weed I sure didn't see it.

[He says, as he slices the next brownie into tiny bites.]

[He sighs, and his voice shakes a little.]

Last time we played, my best friend was tortured to death in the same room. I don't... I don't know if I can do this again...

[Despite everything this week has decided to be, it gets a small smile out of her, too.]

I just- wanted to be able to do something for Ruby, once we escape. And I know she likes coffee. ...or drinks it, at least.

["Likes" might be a strong word with the amount of sugar she adds.]

We've lost people every week. People we cared about. Obviously we aren't going to play in the infirmary--even I don't like going in there. It's not like it's a death knell.

What if we find one of you hanged tomorrow? I started this hoping that if people had something fun to look forward to, nobody would listen to those fucking motives. But week after week, we just keep losing more and more people. No matter what I do it's not enough. It doesn't work.

Well in that case, I'd better do a good job teaching you.

[He ruffles her hair fondly.]

I'll make you good enough to give me a run for my money.

So the alternative is to just stop and wallow instead?
