Most of them aren't nearly this large, but yes. This specifically are the Woods of the Forlorn- the biggest forest in Nohr. The trees are so tall and dense that without leaves they can still block out even starlight.
Legend has it they sprouted over the graves of Norhian soldiers that fell at Fort Dragonfall- in fact, the Hosidans claim this is why it's so large. That instead of good soil or sunlight they drink the dead. And that's why any invader that goes there never comes out.
