PEACE WEEKEND

[It's your first week here, and you've been offered a fantastic prize for killing someone: an all-expense paid vacation! It's a pretty standard prize as far as reality game shows go.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), this isn't exactly a game show.

It seems that no one has died this weekend, and the deadline for the prize is now expired. There's no announcement from the Overseers to that effect; in fact, none of you have seen either of them since Tuesday. Maybe they'll make a reappearance soon, but for now, it seems that you've got a moment of peace.

Hopefully nothing happens to it.]

[She's glad too see he's in here and she wasn't just going ta be standing around all evening. Zombina shrugs at the apology.]

Nah, there's nothing ta apologize to me for. It was really funny what ya were doing til, well, ya know.

[Stabbing happened. Uh... She'll hold up the normal cup of coffee towards him. She should probably not give it to him until she has a way to make sure he doesn't close the door, but he kinda looks like he feels like shit and- well. She kinda doubts he would close the door on her just like that.]

Here ya go. I promise it's completely one hundred percent free of bacon syrup.

[She'll just wait for him to take it before trying to keep the conversation going.]

So do ya do skits like that a lot, or was that just an special thing?

[Karamatsu eyes the cup for a moment before taking it in kind, though he doesn't drink from it right away. Not that he thinks there's anything wrong with it, just that he has to work himself up to yet more coffee.]

Thank you. We do them...fairly often, back home? Not every day, or anything...but it just happens, sometimes. We brothers get in pairs and come up with a skit. Osomatsu and I thought of it last night...we thought it might break the tension a bit.

[And then he stabbed his brother. With a fork.]

Well. It was certainly working! Though the subject material mighta been too on the nose fer our situation.

[The first murder ever isn't exactly the best material for a skit in a situation where they're being told to murder others.]

Major points for trying though! It's good ta see others try and bring the mood of the place up around here.

[Besides Max and a few others, it's not like many people have been trying.]

I wouldn't mind seeing another skit sometime. Just one with less pointy objects involved.

Yes...we should have thought that through a bit more before hand...

[He doesn't tell her that they picked that story out very carefully. They were so sure that joking about their predicament would help people feel better, but...all they ended up doing is hurting each other and making fools of themselves. The latter was bound to happen anyway, though.]

I am sure once Osomatsu is feeling better he would be up for trying again. Perhaps something we know a bit better, next time.

[Zombina shrugs and takes a sip of her bacon flavored coffee.]

I'm sure he will! I don't know what havin' siblings is like, but I'm sure a little wound ain't gonna come between ya. Worst case scenario, he'll just get an embarrassing scar outta this!

[Zombina would know about embarrassing scars.]

If not, then if ya need an skit partner, then I can give it a shot! If that's cool with ya and stuff. But uh... Yer a pretty cool guy Kara-kun, so I'll respect yer wishes if ya don't want me ta intrude. 'Specially if it's just an brothers thing, then I get if it'd be rude fer me ta butt in like that.

Oh non non, it is probably not that bad...it is really not much more than a scratch, he just made a bigger deal out of it than it was.

And who knows? I have not performed a skit with another person before. It has a lot to do with our dynamic of sorts.

I'd be glad ta be the first other person then sometime~! But yeah, I get that dynamics matter's a lot in comedy and stuff. S'like that ya need two contrestin' personalities ta play off each other or something right?

Something like that, yes! My brothers and I have been coming up with things since we were young, so that does aid in our ability to come up with things on the spot...we are at our best when we are improvising, after all!

Woah~. Ya guys most be pros by now! Ya ever do shows for cash or anything? Or is it just for pure fun?

[Zombina's pretty sure improv shows are a thing.]

I guess it depends on if people would show...and pay...

People'll pay a lotta money for quality entertainment! Plus ya don't even need your own place ta put on a show. Street preforming, getting an deal at an bar, the world's yer own stage!

[If only all the bars in town don't know them by reputation...even Chibita at his oden cart is starting to get sick of their shit.]

Perhaps someday we could organize something like that! It would be quite something else, to actually be paid for our work...I am surprised we had not considered it sooner!

If ya decide ta do that, then just make sure ta invite me ta the first show ya put on! I'll make sure ta bring my teammates and some of our friends ta check it out.

A good laugh is always a great way ta unwind after work, so It'd be easy ta convince 'em ta tag along with me.

'S an mindset that'd make ya popular among a lotta liminal species people at home. It's... hard ta find people as open minded for the more... monstrous of us.

Forgive me for asking, but...when you say liminal species...what exactly do you mean by that? Are not all people like you where you are from?

Nah. Ya know all those monsters ya see in mythology and stories? Centaurs, Lamia, Oni, Shapeshifters, Mermaids, Zombies, and fuck ton more species... yeah, they're all real and intelligent like you and me. Liminal species, or Extra-species works too. They all more or less with drew ta isolation a looooooong time ago with only some of 'em secretly interactin' with humans still. The government knew 'bout 'em though and they worked together ta keep the lid on any information from gettin' out. Both sides got tired of this though, and 'bout three years ago, the existence of liminal species were revealed ta the general public with the Interspecies Exchange Bill bein' put in place.

[Zombina honestly has no idea how either side kept the lid on it for so long.]

It's been an whooooole big complicated process of integration from there. Some people are more acceptin' than others, while a lotta the less cute and cuddly liminal species are havin' a harder time being accepted. The Interspecies Exchange Bill was kinda rushed out too, so there's a lotta loopholes and bugs that need ta be fixed or worked around.

I can imagine...so it all happened suddenly? It seems that way, if things are being rushed as you say. It makes me wonder if either side was given the proper time to prepare...

Noooot really! On the human side at least. Just one day it was announced that "Hey, all that shit ya thought was fake movie stuff, yeah they're real. Now get along and play nice. K thanks, bye!" and the law was plopped inta place with full news coverage and everything. Now lotsa liminal species are movin' inta society via homestays and shit.

Stuff's... kinda settled down by now, I guess? But a lotta liminal species can still get... looked at and harassed.

Especially the more inhuman ones that aren't as cute and cuddly as like a catgirl or somethin'. The Interspecies Exchange Bill has a lotta bugs and loopholes too, so there's still a lot ta be done.

I know saying that I hope that sorts itself out soon is a bit of a moot point, considering that there is no choice but for both monsters and humans to adapt, but...the sentiment is still the same.

I've gotta pretty unique perspective on the whole thing as an zombie. So I get both sides. But nine times outta ten I gotta side with liminal species. Most who come ta the country via homestay programs just wanna live their lives and do normal people things. Not all of 'em of course. M.O.N. wouldn't be needed if all liminal species were law abidin' citizens.

[No reason to harass them.]

Still, i'm hopeful. A lotta changes have been made in three years, so it's not too hard for even the most different liminal species ta live in human society. Ain't much we can do 'bout people's attitudes towards each other besides wait.
