Great! Now let's see here, as a Monk your main stats are going to be dexterity - that is, how well you can dodge and how fast you can throw a punch - and your wisdom. That one's probably kind of self-explanatory; I always think of the difference between intelligence and wisdom as like... book smarts vs common sense.

So now we want to pick a race. We're going to roll the stats separately in a minute, but first we want to see if we can pick a race that will give a bonus to those numbers to start with.

[He shows her the section of the page on Wood Elves] Elves get a bonus to dexterity, and Wood Elves get that plus a bonus to wisdom, so they're a good bet. There's also a half-elf, which lets you pick two stats to give a bonus to, or you can just be a normal human, which gets a bonus to every stat.

Or just flip through that first chapter there and see if anything catches your eye. Strength bonuses will increase the damage you do, while Constitution will increase the amount of damage you can take, so something like a Dwarf, Dragonborn, or even a Stout Halfling wouldn't be bad, either.

[He is here to answer questions, but the book is hers to flip through.]
