It's not a field I work in. [but he's been on the receiving end of both memory repression without knowing it, and attempts to recover those suppressed memories via similar techniques.]

But some psychiatrists work with repressed memory therapy, and use techniques to help patients recover memories they might have repressed. The legitimacy of it is pretty hotly debated, but some doctors do still use it.

And if you can recover memories, you can knowingly repress them or mess with them. It goes both ways.
