Week 5

[It's been five weeks (since you looked at me) and with the deaths of Shadow and Rukia, the group that was initially 20 strong has dwindled down to ten. Ten people in the span of a month and, even with the Overseers seeming increase in empathy for the remaining Champions, there is no end in sight for the Champion Excellence Program.

And again at 7 am on Sunday the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call there is no new floor announcement this week.

And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

[Oh hey, there's someone else in here? There's a sudden rustle as Jane pushes herself up from where she'd been crouched amongst some herb bushes, a bundle of various ones in her dirt-covered hands.]

...Ricky?

[She looks up.]

Jane. Hey.

[There's an awkward pause. Jane...was still very, very sorry for what happened in the trial, but-]

Hey. Um...Ricky, do you...like carrot cake?

[Eh?]

[Congratulations, Jane, you're the second person to ask Ricky an totally unexpected question within the past day.]

--Oh! Yes. Why?

[Yaaaaaay]

I was thinking of making some this week. And...I wanted to be sure you'd like it.

[Because you're getting one especially. A whole cake.]

I'd love it. I'm sure everyone else will, too.

[This probably isn't the "B06F. Dance hall of the fairies" response Jane was hoping for, but it's a smile, anyway.]

[cyan_maid]

[...Jane does her best to smile back, looking down at the herbs in her hands.]

I think I'm just...going to make a whole mess of cake tomorrow. I don't know what else to do with myself to...you know.

[Not think about how everything is terrible.]

That's a good idea. I really think we all could use some cake.

[Maybe cake can distract them from terribleness? Or maybe not. Pie didn't seem to do the trick.]

[It probably can't, but making cake keeps you busy. If nothing else, that's what Jane wants.]

Maybe I could...contrive some cream cheese icing, too. Even if I have to use the little packets to do so. It's...a project.

[And meanwhile Ricky will just map out the new floorOH WAIT.]

It's worth a try. If anyone can do it, I'm sure you can.

[Yeah they've hit the roof on this one, haven't they.]

It...shouldn't be too hard. Just tedious. It's not like I'm working around basic components. But, thanks.

Would you like some help? I'm still pretty good at opening packets.

[Jane snorts, despite herself.]

Um - sure, yes, packet-opening would be very appreciated. Maybe this time we could make something edible.

It already sounds like a better idea.

I'm planning on making quite a lot of cake, too - I hope you're ready.

[voltrounds]

No amount of cake can defeat me.

I'm going to hold you to that, you know - I take my cake endeavors quite seriously.

I think you'll find I'm very hard to defeat.

[cyan_maid]

[A hesitant, but earnest smile.] Good! I - I do so love a challenge.

[Well now they're both happy and everything will be fine forever, right?]

[As long as nobody dies. Which...won't be for several days. They'll be a nice several days.]

I'll knock on your door - but if you need a little more sleep, I'll leave a note, too.

I don't really need a huge amount of sleep or anything, so I'll probably be fine.

[She... probably needs more sleep than game mechanics imply, though.]
