Week 5

[It's been five weeks (since you looked at me) and with the deaths of Shadow and Rukia, the group that was initially 20 strong has dwindled down to ten. Ten people in the span of a month and, even with the Overseers seeming increase in empathy for the remaining Champions, there is no end in sight for the Champion Excellence Program.

And again at 7 am on Sunday the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call there is no new floor announcement this week.

And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

[For some, coming to the Pool so soon after Shadow's death would be considered a little tacky. Even more so with the intent to swim. But seeing how the hedgehog died only reminded Xander of his own little secret- and with Yurika knowing it (and knowing Yurika, a few others as well) he couldn't afford to NOT learn how to swim. What if someone decided to drown him as well? And by now the pool should be clean.

He didn't bother with the swim suits- after the speedo he can't stand being so underdressed again so soon. But he does have his jumpsuit on, with the breeches Thomasin made him on over them, and his dress shirt that the Benefactors gifted him, open, but on. Still, he didn't expect anyone else here, especially not Togami.

After considering turning and leaving, he instead sits as well. Not right next to Togami, they aren't familiar enough for that. But close enough to speak easily. He remembers how Togami had yelled at seeing the body. At him assuming Shadow was the one that made him stand that over the top pool of goo.]

... was he your friend?

[He doesn't expect Togami to answer. Or if he did, to sneer. But well, he wouldn't have said anything at all if that bothered him]

I knew him for one month

[It took him three years to start considering the Hope's Peak survivor cast 'friends', like hell Shadow would be a friend after just one month!

...but he definitely was above the rest in Togami's books, that's for sure]

He once said we were 'reluctant allies' or something like that. I guess that'd be accurate.

From what I knew of him that sounds about right. War makes for strange bedfellows.

[And while it is not in the way Xander is used to, this is a battle]

It's mostly because I shared with him information I didn't share with anyone else. It's hard not to say he wasn't a 'reluctant ally' if I was doing that.

[Well, the Doctor and Jane also know stuff, but not as much as Shadow did]

I had expected him to stay alive, not to die in such an idiotic way.

So even if he wasn't a friend, you must have seen something in him if you were willing to share information. That alone is worth grieving the loss, even if it's just losing his skill.

[Grieving? That is...well, not really something Togami knows how to do]

I knew from the beginning people were going to die, yet I foolishly took the chance to share information with someone. I have only myself to blame for getting myself into this ridiculous situation.

[He really would like not to feel so strange for the loss of someone he knew for such a short time]

[He tilts his head slightly, as if Togami said something curious]

Honestly, you may be the smartest one here concerning that.

[He would tell Lightning basically that a few days later- it was why he couldn't dislike Togami as much as a lot of the others did. He was a stratagest by nature.]

It would be wiser for everyone to keep their cards closer to their chests. Still, you haven't lost that information with him. So I wonder if that is the real reason you seem so pensive?

[It takes Togami a moment to reply to that. He knows very well why he's so pensive, but saying it aloud is something he'd have preferred not to do.

But Xander was the leader of the group, and Togami didn't really have any interest on contradicting that. He didn't care enough about the group as a whole to try to take the leader spot. May as well do what one does with the leader: talk about it]

I have been wondering why I'm frustrated Shadow is dead. He was by no means a friend, and frankly Shadow was annoyingly difficult from the first time I saw him. He may have been a worthwhile person to talk with, but I can't say I considered him better than the rest of you in any way.

A few days before he died I found him carving himself in the kitchen. I even took the time to give him medicine for that and tell him to stop 'experimenting'.

[Well, honestly Togami would have reacted the same if it had been anyone in this station -- it was mostly the shock of entering a place and seeing somebody bleeding around and with a knife in their hand. Giving Shadow antibiotic gel was the part he didn't think he'd do with anyone, though]

[His eyes widen slightly at that]

Did he tell you why he was doing that?

[To Xander the fact that Togami helped seems like it should have been obvious- but Togami is a very different type of person then he is]

He seemed to have remembered something significant about who he is and what he is. I can only suppose he wanted to check if he was a robot or something similar.
