week 4
[Four weeks in and almost half the Champions' original numbers are gone. Eight people in the span of a month and, even with the Overseers seeming increase in empathy for the remaining Champions, there is no end in sight for the Champion Excellence Program.
And again at 7 am on Sunday the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call the message tacked on:]
Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the fourth floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.
[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]
[ooc: welcome to week 4, everyone! Check-in has begun and don't forget to submit your memory regains!]
dodgeball
[stare]
...morning?

[You caught her mid-throw and mid-insult, Yurika. She freezes when she hears her name, and the ball sails to the side, bouncing to the floor half a room from its mark.]
...Uh...hi...?

[Her arm moves from being outstretched for throwing to rubbing the back of her neck.]
Hoo hoo! Ah, well, perhaps, but there's nothing wrong with getting a little exercise in, is there? Hoo hoo hoo hoo!!
[Her laughter is incredibly forced.]

What did he do this time?

[Her laugh peters out, and her gaze slowly turns back to her "target".]
...He...did a lot of stupid things.

[It's actually a terrible drawing of Jake, but that's nitpicking.]

[And if you don't mind, Jane's going to just hold onto one of these dodgeballs to keep her hands occupied - and hey, it's not like it could actually hurt anyone or break anything.]

...So, um, to start...it turns out that my friends and I were all able to get into the game - and I was right about that noble gas thing. And in order to get everyone into the game, a lot of really complicated stuff happened. For one, I died. But it's okay, my friend Dirk was able to bring me back to life in my dream self's body. And he also...had this hinge on our friend Jake sort of...kissing the decapitated head from his real self? With a volcano exploding in the background, and doubled as him confessing his own feelings to Jake and now they're dating?
[Yeah she still can't believe that shit happened.]
But, anyway. After that, we started to get to work in the game, solving puzzles and slaying these awfully strong skeleton monsters. We were able to earn materials from slaying them, but each one dropped so few resources that we really had to stretch everything we got to make new weapons and better clothes for fighting. And this was what went on in general for...about five months.
[Let that sink in before we get to the specifics.]

I am so sorry, Jane has a LOT of feelings
[Though she's surprised you didn't ask about a boy kissing another boy's detached head in front of an exploding volcano. Seriously Yurika, your world is weird but this is some batshit insanity.]
In regards to Dirk...well, I'd still say we're friends, but I can't say things aren't awkward between us. Roxy's also been a wonderful friend and confidant, a real champ amongst us. But Jake...oh, God, I could never get a word in edgewise. Whenever he'd talk to me, either in person or over text message, he'd ramble about Dirk this, boyfriend that, oh golly gee Jane, do you think it'd be too forward of me if I dipped Dirk into a smooch in the middle of lassoing that gargantuan beasty making a mess of the Stonehenge-y doodads on LOMAX?
[It should be noted that her grip on the dodgeball is progressively tightening, and her tone becomes more and more bitter and sarcastic with every sentence.]
And then the difficulties, he'd say, the difficulties of dating Dirk Strider! Oh Jane, he's such a nervous nelly he is! Oh, Jane, he won't stop shadowing me on LOTAK, a gent can't rightly relieve himself when his best datebro buddy is breathing down his neck! Jane, I know I haven't spoken to you in three weeks to let you know I'm alive but I've been avoiding my boyfriend like he has the plague because I'm too much of a chicken shit to properly break up with him, but I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful friend you are, listening to me blather into the void while you try in vain to start a proper conversation and just hum noncommittally because why in the world might you have anything actually helpful to say???
[Thank goodness strength is nerfed in this room because from the force Jane is holding that ball, she might've torn it by now.]
And then to top it right the hell off, HE FORGOT MY BIRTHDAY! The one thing where we could all be together and not think about how long we'll be stuck waiting for our weird parallel teenage guardians and do something NICE, and he just - just - blows it off!! Like it doesn't even matter at all! And then the one time I can actually get through to him that maybe, just maybe he's been an insensitive douchewaffle, HE THINKS I'VE BEEN IMPLYING THAT I FANCY DIRK THIS WHOLE TIME!!! [She flops back onto the floor, the lingering anger from this morning returning in full force, the ball flying out of her hands and hitting the wall behind her.] NO YOU STUPID SEXY BOY, I'VE FANCIED YOU FOR YEARS!!!!!
no subject
Oh, Jane-chan, that's awful! I might not really understand some of it, but talk about someone who has no idea! [yurika, you're one to talk] And you couldn't tell him at all? That's so sad!
no subject
Yeah, I...I know.
[And all at once everything just. Deflates out of her.]
I...I couldn't even spit it out, I just...told him right the heck off and smashed up my communicator. [Shoot, and all she has left at home is that nasty Tiaratop and the Crosbytop. Great, just great.] And...and I shouldn't have even done that. He doesn't...he's not a mind-reader, who would even pick up on all of that? And - and I went and flipped a table and ruined my own birthday cake, too. It's not like it's worth it to have a party, anyway. [She lifts her head slightly, lets it thunk on the floor.] If he's stupid, then I'm just as stupid for him being my biggest problem in a spaceship where the people running it want me to kill or be killed.

But other people here have gone through so much - not just from what I've been told, but surely with things I haven't, either. A girl throwing a fit over a boy back home...it doesn't seem like it matters at all when people have family members dying, and whole worlds being destroyed, and...stuff.
["Stuff" being "slowly turning into a zombie", but we're not going around spreading someone else's personal business.]

...Miss Yurika...what if it's already in ruins when we get out of here? What if my memories just keep getting worse?
no subject
I'm afraid of that, too. I hope it isn't. But even if it looks like there's nothing left, you can do something, I'm sure. We'll be here. If those of us who are left can get back to how we were, I'm sure we could do something.
no subject
...I hope so. Gosh, I...I really hope so.
[Finally, Jane pushes herself up from the floor. Her face is a little red.] Sorry for, um, venting like that...I was in the middle of continuing to throw a fit, from what I last remember, so...I guess I'm still really mad.
